It's incredibly dangerous until they are at least 4

They can be seriously injured or killed even in the smaller accidents

Please don’t start forward facing 😩

I was told once they reach the age of 2-4 years

@Angel regardless if they are forward or rear facing, they can get killed in a small accidents. They also can break there leg bones very easily in a rear facing one too if u get in a car wreck because most babies are jammed in rear facing cars eats by the time they are 18 months old no matter what carseat you have. Maybe do more research on actually credible sites...

Just so everyone is aware, doctors will even agree on this, if babies are squished in rear facing carseats, it is as much dangerous as them being in a forward facing carseat.

In my opinion they should be rear face until atleast age 4 for spinal injuries. Would you rather them have broken legs or brain/spinal injuries? Also they have more bones than adults because they haven't fused together yet. They are more flexible then us.

I live in TX and it’s state law they can’t forward face until 2. There’s a lot of controversy about this and one thing I read that’s stuck with me is…. “Sure, their legs may be cramped facing backwards, but at-least the can prop them up. When forward they dangle. Imagine sitting in a chair with your legs dangling off the edge, with no support for that long. Your legs would go numb most likely and it’s uncomfortable.” Not only is it safer to rear face, it’s also more comfortable.

No. Not til 50 pounds

nope. my daughter is big too. almost 30lbs and in the 93rd percentile for height. i don’t plan on switching her anytime soon. her legs are long af but she can cross them

No. Safest to keep them rear facing as long as possible.

At least 2, and not until they reach the height/weight restrictions of the rear facing setting of their car seat. It’s best to wait as long as possible IMO

My almost 3yr old is still rear facing.

This is the seat my 3yr old has.. Graco Slimfit 3 in 1 Car Seat | Slim & Comfy Design Saves Space in Your Back Seat, Darcie https://a.co/d/crwNgBC

It is based on weight AND height and will say in your car seat manual. Usually it’s 40lbs and 40inch. If they meet one of those you’re good and that normally doesn’t happen until they’re 4yrs old. I could be wrong but that’s what my daughters car seat says.

@Maddeline Freese those straps are entirely too high. that needs to be lowered so it’s right below where his should starts. he doesn’t look to long to be rear facing

@Maddeline Freese if you get into an accident he will die. Car seat safety isn't a joke. That chest buckle being on his stomach and not his chest will go through his organs. It's called a chest buckle for a reason. He's not too tall, his legs will bend but his neck wont. His neck will snap and that will tear through his stomach. I've seen it. Car seats have instructions for a reason. There are laws and rules for a reason. I would rather my son be a tad more uncomfortable and alive than dead or seriously injured.

@Maddeline Freese yikes… he is definitely too small to be front facing and like Aluna said those straps are WAY too high. They need to be at shoulder level and not loose enough to be able to pinch the fabric of the straps together, and the buckle needs to be at armpit level. If you were to get into an accident I believe he could be seriously injured. People are right it is irresponsible, sorry.

Highly recommend the @safeintheseat Instagram profile - rear facing is the safest.

@Maddeline Freese I understand my “yikes” offended you but everything I said was true, no insults just the proper way to have your car seat set up and the fact that your child could be seriously injured if you were to get into an accident with his car seat/straps like that. You saying that “people think it’s irresponsible” shows that you know or at least have heard it’s unsafe 😅

@Maddeline Freese girl. He would F-L-Y the fuck out of there in an accident. Just think about the logistics here. Why would his shoulders/head stay in place in an accident? Like what about this would prevent that? Yeah, nothing, unless it’s a fender bender. If you need help with finding a technician that can get him set up a *comfortable* and safe manner, lmk, I can look up resources for you. Please don’t risk this.

@Ganga Sharma there is no type of car seat called a “front facing car seat”. All these car seats you see facing frontwards? They also rear face! Yay. Unless perhaps you’re thinking of a booster seat, which does not begin for a very long time (a LONG time….like 8 years old). It is state law where you are, like in many places, to rear face until age 2 *at minimum*. And it is advised by state authorities where you are, like in many places, to rear face as long as possible. This would mean as long as the car seat manual says you can.

@Maddeline Freese yep! carseat safety is super important, so i’m glad i could help! make sure the chest clip is aligned with the armpits and that the straps are tight and start right below the top of his shoulders. also, i’d go back to rear facing, his legs don’t look too long yet, and he could always cross them if he gets uncomfortable. my daughter usually does :)

No, it’s illegal in my state and a lot of other states before 2. Then I will max out the rear facing car seat. There is no reason to switch any earlier

@Maddeline Freese if he is forward facing the straps need to be coming from just ABOVE his shoulders not below, below is for rear facing. His chest clip needs to be moved up to armpit level. If it is where it is when there is an accident it will smash organs if it is higher the ribs will be there to protect it (helps me to visualize it) there is a great group on Fb car seat safety 101 that helps with fit checks if you have any issues. He could still rear face with the correct fitting. A lot of kids do it until they are 4-5!

@Maddeline Freese I have the Graco 4ever dlx and it’ll last a long time. Peds don’t always know what’s best with car seats (outdated info) there are some that will max out at 50lbs and 50”

@Maddeline Freese I’m so glad you adjusted it! Best of luck with your delivery. And apologies for the swearing, it’s something I don’t think to avoid when I’m speaking with other young adults.

In NE the law is rear facing until 2 because their young bodies/bones are not ready to forward face

It sounds like the car seat you have is forward facing only? We switched from the infant seats as they're not very big and I kept getting tricked (when buying the new one) by all the toddler ones that are forward facing only/booster with such low weight ratings. I really wish they'd make them all forward and rear facing... I also agree that some pediatricians have outdated info and would definitely consider finding something that's rear facing and try and max that out. I didn't necessarily take it as seriously as I should have but this video definitely opened my eyes https://youtu.be/nUihJ6DpqZw she has a great Instagram as well 💗 Glad you made the adjustments and thanks for starting the conversation, so we can all learn through it. 🤗

I have a big boy and we are going to forward-face as long as we can. He was 35 inches and 33 pounds at his 18 months appointment
