FMLA Maternity Leave

Hey ladies! I currently work night shift as a RN. I am extremely tired. My due date is 6 weeks away. I’m ready to take my maternity leave now. What has been y’all’s experience with taking your leave earlier? Will my job give me trouble with trying to leave a month early?

As HR what their policy is. Every state and employer is different. In my experience, I had to use pto for any unapproved time off.

I didn't take FMLA and my short term disability (how my work handles paid maternity leave) only covered post baby. That said I have an office job and am currently remote so it was easier to work until baby was born.

@Kasandra YES! The only downfall with my job is that I am contract so I just couldn’t up and leave. Hopefully the case manager from FMLA reaches out and gives me some more information!

@Maria another reason I’m going on leave early is to go back home to deliver because my doctor is not the best down here. I have an appointment with my doctor back home on the 5th so I’m praying she will be able to so I don’t have to travel 3 hours for work.

I work for “Texas Perinatal Group” and it’s a FM specialty… I did not qualify whatsoever for FMLA due to not being with the company for a year.. it sucks but I’d rather put my pregnancy 1st over a job 🙏🏽 especially as time is closing in on my due date

Can your dr put you on bed rest? I was put on bed rest at week 23 and signed up for short term disability

Some states let you go a month before due date others don’t. Ask your HR department what is covered for you.

I think it depends on the state you live in and the company you work for. I was unable to use FMLA or paid maternity leave until I actually gave birth so I just reduced my hours to part time. I ended up going into labor three weeks early so it worked out lol good luck!
