We did a loose interpretation of BLW. Like he got a lot of meals in BLW style but I still fed him some bite by bite. He is one and loves food now. I don’t worry much at all now about what I give him as far as size/shape because he’s figured out how to take bites and not pack his mouth full. We went through the gagging stage pretty quickly but the packing stage was tough. He would just shove all his food in his mouth at once. Finally he learned to take smaller bites and now he fully chews and swallows his bites before taking another. I highly recommend Solid Starts on Instagram and their app. You don’t have to pay for it. I use the free version.
Solid Starts is amazing and has basically all the info you need to do BLW. Babies actually don’t need teeth to start solids as they use their gums. And they’re actually less likely to choke on solids than on purées. There are safe ways to prepare almost any food - they have a database that shows what to do for each item.
Anything you can squish with your fingers they can eat. My boy was soooo late getting teeth.. like around 1? And he was an incredible eater haha
Do you buy it? Try getting your own veggies, cooking til soft then mashing gently with the back of a fork so they’re lumpy rather than totally smooth. Babies don’t need teeth to manage well with solids. You ever been bitten by a baby with no teeth? The gums can still hurt! 😂
I’m too nervous to try BLW but, my pedia recommended Solid Starts, I checked out their website / app and there are recommendations on how to cut / prepare foods for various ages
Stage 2 just means it's less of a puree a bit more lumpy
I didn't do baby led weaning for my first as I was so anxious about choking etc and he is a little bit of a fussy eater now. With my 2nd I was less worried and did baby led weaning from just before 6 months as he was ready to eat earlier. It's amazing and he loves his food sooooo much and is such a good eater. Would highly recommend it.
I did. If you learn the difference between gagging and choking it helps. But we loved it.
