Honestly elective c sections are nothing like the horror stories. I elected and loved mine. I'd have another tomorrow. You'll only be in theatre around an hour and baby will be out in first 10/15 mins... the rest of the time flys by! All being well they'll probably discharge you the next day. The only pain I felt was a few seconds sting for the needles and the recovery was achey but totally manageable on paracetamol and ibuprofen taken religiously for 2 weeks. I was able to carry him in car seat briefly the next day. Got down to change him on the floor. Was putting washing in and wiping spills on the floor a few days later... it's all doable slowly and carefully. We were out walking week 2 and visiting family. Week 3 I drove.
I had GD and a planned C section. Best decision ever. Although I decided to get a c section because the thought of a vaginal birth gives me nightmares and would have been too distressing for me. Good luck and interested to see what you decide to do!
I've got mine this Tuesday. Anxious but can't wait
Had my section 2 days ago and this was my second section, first being an emergency this one planned. It's absolute fine and every other mother on my ward who had her section was fine too 😊. Understandably though, it's a major operation and body needs time to heal. My best advice is take whatever they offer you (pain relief) even if you think you're managing & keep on top of pain relief meds for few days and take it easy. Get up and move around when you can because it really helps gets your body working again (bowels, bladder etc) Good luck and I hope your section goes well! 😊
C section was amazing. Recovery is nothing like I thought it was going to be, the day after I struggled getting in and out of bed but by day 3 I was ‘fine’ getting about the house, day 4 we went for a walk. I’m not taking any pain meds anymore (day 8) and just taking things easy but I’m able to cook and put a wash on etc, leaving the hoovering to my partner still.
@Molly most hospitals will induce you a little earlier with GD as it can cause pregnancy complications
Why do you need a section because of gestational diabetes? I’m 38 weeks with GD but having a natural labour (whenever it happens!)
Thanks for all your advise definitely think I’ll be opting for a section I’ve heard all good things about a planned one and how smoothly it’s ran for people plus I suffer with a bit of anxiety and just want him here quickly and safely💙xxxx
