Baby feeding tips

Hi ladies, those of you who are breast feeding, how are you scheduling your feeds? I really did not want to pump, but I can’t seem to align with baby’s feeding schedule without being engorged😩my little girl is 2 weeks old and can go up to 3 / 3.5 hours or so without a feed, but by that time my breasts are so engorged that I have to pump some milk out. I have managed to freeze some as I don’t want it to go To waste, but I also don’t want a huge amount frozen as I won’t have enough space. I’m trying to wake her for feeds but she’s gaining weight and midwife said to let her sleep, which I am doing but feeling the effects of it on my boobs! Sometimes she’ll wake up right on time but most of the time I’m having to pump😩like right now for example, she’s fast asleep but I’m having to pump! I have had to pump at 7pm and she had a feed at 9pm. I have also tried to not pump and wait for her but I just end up with sore leaky boobs! Any tips will be appreciated xx

@Tanya yeah so I only express for about 5-7 mins just to ease the tension off a bit. But I’m still full but not in pain which is manageable. I’ve also tried feeding baby when I feel like this, but she won’t take it. I’ve tried waking her up, nappy changes etc but unless she’s actually hungry she’s just not interested. It’s just a case of navigating to feeding times to avoid pumping, but I’m sure we’ll get there somehow x

@Ebony Is this an app you’re using to track your feeding? I have tried hand expressing but my breasts are still in pain. I’ve tried leaving them be but they literally go rock hard which makes it so hard to breathe🤣xx

I just do responsible feeding & do a small hand expression or haakaa and massage if I feel engorged. Try expressing a little rather than the full load - remember it’s supply and demand.. if it thinks your baby is needing more then it’ll produce more. Cold cabbage leaves are supposed to help & massage them in the shower. Ibuprofen. I was told to feed baby when you’re uncomfortable too as you ‘can’t’ over feed a breastfed baby.
