Work related advice

I work from home on a fixed term contract and I know the contract has the potential to extend. I'm taking 2 weeks off work to recover from my c section operation then plan to return to work. I spoke to my boss about this and he gave me his personal opinion even though I did not ask for it. He said that it's too soon for me to come back. I understand his concern but unfortunately I have to work. I don't have entitlement to any SMP and maternity allowance would not cover my outgoings so I have no choice. I just hope that they don't not extend because I would of had a child...isn't that pregnancy discrimination? Just too add I have help on hand so I will be able to manage. Should my boss have gave his personal opinion or is it irrelevant as I know what I want to do.

Tbh I think it's a contract and not fixed term. The other thing is that the contract expires end of June so I will be able to complete the last 1.5 weeks of the contract. Is it right for them to say that I can't?

Oh I get it totally. I had a position come up in my workplace and was told I can’t apply because I was going off. That was 4 months ago so I could have started the job and taken the 6 months I’m taking off easily. But unfortunately as it’s a fixed term for you then they can easily say that the work isn’t needed now xx

I totally understand that but I'd be sat at home working from my desk. I have financial responsibilities too. Maybe not discrmation but I do feel penalised

I wouldn’t say it’s discrimination but it depends on workload there too. But 2 weeks is defo not enough time to recover and go back to work. They recommend 6 for recover from c section but also at least 10 after a baby regardless. You’re body needs to recover hun x

It wouldn't be pregnancy discrimination if they don't extend because the job is a fixed term so they have the right to end it when it ends. UNLESS they have told you they are going to - get it in writing, and ensure they don't then offer the job to someone else in some form of new contract/position.
