Water šŸ’§

My LOs Dr has encouraged me to allow my daughter up to 8 oz of water a day. This may seem silly but she doesn't seem to be a fan. I know the water in my house is safe for her to drink, but I was just wondering if there's something I can add to her water for some flavor to encourage her to drink? I forgot to ask her pediatrician and the dr is closed. We are going to a lakehouse this weekend and I want to make sure she stays cool. TIA!

A tsp of karo syrup helps. My friend told me to do that to help encourage my child to drink water until he gets use to it

My boy seems to love the water cold maybe cuz the teething? But itā€™s always bottled water or brita filter type water

@Hannah karo syrup is not recommended for babies under 1. it's the same as honey and molasses, and it's really not good them.

trust me i been there. my little girl haaated water, and she needed it at the time we tried to introduce it because she was really constipated so it was a struggle trying to get her to drink it. but iā€™d say keep trying & offering. it took a week for her to accept it and now she loves it and doesnā€™t play about it. sheā€™ll chug it down, and fuss for her sippy water bottle if she sees it in sight so we have to literally hide it until after sheā€™s done eating her solids

or maybe mix it with a little bit of baby juice for flavoring and see if it helps. not too much though

Just keep offering! Itā€™s something new. Baby takes time to adjust. The doctor saying to offer doesnā€™t mean sheā€™ll be dehydrated if not. It seems like they were just saying you can start adding that to her diet.

@mama bit i disagree because honey can kill them because of bacteria and a little bit of molasses is okay after 9 months. I rank karo with molasses and we are talking about a tsp and you can put less than that even. I mean I am open to my mind being changed thatā€™s just based off my research.

A splash just a splash of 100% apple juice. For every four ounce split the 8 oz up into two each time she drinks

Iā€™d highly recommend just to keep offering water. I was concerned with our son & did add things to his water but now I regret it. Itā€™s taken a while but our daughter just recently started enjoying water. As long as your baby is getting formula or breast milk, she shouldnā€™t be getting dehydrated. It just takes time to develop a craving for water.

My lo lives really cold water out of a straw and will only drink it that way idk why also she doesnā€™t know how to drink from a straw so I sit there and drop a straw at a time in her mouth itā€™s really taxing šŸ˜‚

what are you serving it in? my baby wonā€™t drink it out of a bottle, only an open cup. i offer at every meal and sometimes she drinks one sip and sometimes 4 oz

I made flavored or infused water with things like lemon, lime, cucumber, watermelon, etc. just to give it some flavor. Iā€™ve even used the little lime juice bottle thatā€™s shaped like a lime and added a few drops to water

@Hannah honey, molasses, and karo syrup have the same risk of killing them due to bacteria. it's botulism bacteria. a simple google search will tell you karo syrup is not recommended for any baby under one. babies stomachs aren't acidic enough to kill the bacteria until 1 year of age, which is why karo syrup, honey, and molasses are not recommended under one anymore. i know doctors used to tell moms to put karo syrup in a babies bottle to help with constipation, but it's not safe, and is now not said anymore.

@mama bit karo syrup is basically just sugar which isnā€™t recommended for babies either

@mama bit okay chill and a simple google search isnā€™t always accurate. I can get the message of what you are trying to say without you being condescending. šŸ‘šŸ‘

@Hannah i wasn't being condescending on purpose. i apologise, i can have a flat affect sometimes

@mama bit no worries! I appreciate the clarification šŸ˜Š

I found taking the lid of her sippy cup and having it a open cup encouraged my LG as she sees us drinking from normal cups and she loves to hold it and try drinking I didnā€™t realise we needed to try get 8oz down I thought it was only little bits at meal times so Iā€™ll have to try and up her amount

@Lala šŸ’‹ did the water help with the constipation? My LO has the hardest poops right now and no amount of prunes can help it. I give her water throughout the day but donā€™t know how much to give.

@Megan yess it helped and also change of diet. i also didnā€™t know we were allowed to give so much so when i told my pediatrician about the constipation she told me to give 6-8oz of the water a day. as far as softer stools go, iā€™d suggest feeding prunes, sweet potatoes, pears, peaches, and peas more often as they help with constipation and encourage softer stools. it got so bad to the point where i decided to just stop feeding her other foods and just focused on the ones i mentioned above until she was back to moving again. but for future defly beware of rice and bananas because they contribute to hard stools/constipation.
