All the lists above are so helpful! I wouldn't worry too much I spent the last two days in hospital due to the scare of early labour (I am 34 weeks and don't have a hospital bag packed yet) and all the midwives said that they have everything you need in case of emergency. However, they recommended bringing baby clothes, comfy pj for you, loads of snacks, books/magazines for you and the partner, formula as you never know if you can breastfeed, syringes for colostrum, maternity pads and pants, some small toiletries, long charger, flipflops or clippers and fan (those wards are hot!) They said not to bother with a pump at all until baby is born as you don't really know if and what you will need it at all. They have pumps in the hospital too x
I’d only take ready made formula with you if you’re planning to bottle feed. The first few days of feeding your baby they’ll be taking the colostrum until your milk comes in. If you want to breastfeed then you’ll cause issues with your milk coming in if you’re giving formula instead of breastfeeding them the colostrum as each time your baby feeds it tells your body to produce milk
there's some good videos on tiktok where people share what they packed and what they actually used x
I’ve been told not to bother with scratch mitts or socks they are built into the baby grows and they just get lost anyway, 1 hat for baby then 3 baby grows and vest, muslins and a blanket. Dark comfy clothes for you, toiletries and snacks
I was told not to take milk in if I plan to breastfeed as feeding baby milk can prevent your own milk coming in. Worse comes to worse husband will have to go buy some
@Jenna thank you. Oh thats great are you having a boy or a girl?😍 I'm not sure how big is my baby as I've had a midwife appointment at my 28weeks and my belly was a lil big for the chart but she said to wait till my 34weeks appointment to see if i need a growth scan or not so ill know more on 6th of Jun 😳😁 I'm planning on breastfeeding as my boobies got soo big and did hurt at start so hopefully I will be able to breastfeed as I've just ordered 2 breastfeeding pumps aswell😅 my mum will help me in house but i wouldn't count her in helping me getting stuff as We're Polish and I stay in UK she doesn't really speak English 😅
@Emma thank you I feel soo stressed sometimes but then next minute I'm like I don't even know what I'm gonna need 😳😅 ill have to check tiktok for some advices too😁
I’m a FTM as well and I won’t lie, TikTok has been my best friend 🤣 I’ve bought 2 packs of Kendamil readymade bottles for the hospital, as our milk will probably take a few days to come in! I’ve got a pack of size 1 nappies from Aldi and a pack of first size pampers that came free in the Emma’s diary pack! ☺️ I’m due on the 12th and I’m so unorganised too but don’t panic 🥰
Things to pack that nhs list dose not say: socks, Nipple cream and change for carpark/ vending machine, water bottle with straw ,long phone charger, things for birthing partner (clothes, snacks, toiletries, entertainment) and cotton wool (advised to use instead of wipes to start). If your planning on bottle feeding pre-made bottles with teats, check the date. If planning to breastfeed check with midwife if hospital supply if needed. https://www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/labour-and-birth/preparing-for-the-birth/pack-your-bag-for-labour/ My local areas list https://healthforunder5s.co.uk/sections/pregnancy/packing-a-bag-for-labour/
