Feeling stupid for having a belief not backed up enough

I thought I saw proof last time my son has a cold that the humidifier we had helped his breathing. My husband said a few weeks ago that he didn't think it helped, that he actually thought it made him worse. I listen to my husband for almost everything. He's very smart and he understands most things better than I do. However, it was hurting me to watch the baby sick again and there's not a whole lot we can do for them. My father (who is the worst person to listen to since he even forgot to feed the child lunch one day) said to use Vicks to help with his cough and mentioned the humidifier we had and you know when you already believe something and someone saying it just kind of cements your own belief? Well this cemented my belief in the humidifier for some reason and I used it the last couple nights. I actually think I made the child worse. He had finally seemed like he was getting over it, he had already barely been coughing during the day but 3 nights ago he seemed to barely cough at night as well. Then last night was a little worse. Then tonight he woke up around 10ish crying and I comforted him, changed him and stupidly pulled the humidifier closer like it's a heal all...then he woke up around 430 coughing. I'm now under the same belief as my husband but it's too late. I've already made him worse, who knows what it will take to help him recover from my mistake. How could I be so dumb? :(

You didn't do anything wrong. Humidifiers do work as others have said. It's just a coincidence that this one time your father was correct on his advice. Colds aren't linear sometimes they get worse before they get better. And as a baby suffering with this virus for the very first time you don't know how their body's going to respond. Holding them in a steamy shower and setting up the humidifier is about all you can do.

If you use distilled water, it can definitely help! It’s supposed to help with breathing, so if he has a runny/stuffy nose.. it’s best to use a humidifier! You’re doing great mama! Your baby is lucky to have you as a mama! Trust your instincts!

The humidifier does helps it allows your to breathe better just make sure the filter is cleaned ! Don’t feel stupid that’s a bit harsh to feel. Babies get sick there is no one size fits all for the healing time. Vicks also has a line for children as well. All good remedies. And if you are really unsure seek medical attention

The humidifier might be moistening the air and making it easier for him to cough up some of the yucky stuff. It’s probably loosening his mucus in his nose and it might be running down his throat making him cough a little bit! I think as long as the humidifier is clean, there can’t really be much harm in it. We use a humidifier when our bubs is sick and I’ve used one since i was little whenever I’m sick or stuffy to help loosen stuff up! Of course, it’s not a heal all. But your little one will absolutely be okay. Our grandfather used Vicks to heal literally everything and my mom and i do the same😂 I’m sorry your little one isn’t feeling good and that you’re feeling this way. But just remember, you were/are trying everything to make him feel better. That’s a good mom. You’re a good mom. If it doesn’t seem to be helping clean it or turn it off🖤 he’ll get better soon. Give yourself a break, love. We’re all just doing the best we can🖤

I don’t think you should feel stupid at all! A humidifier can make you sick if it’s dirty , but most the time it helps! Your child being sick may also have nothing to do with it! Frida baby has some vapor drops for humidifiers or diffusers that might help! Don’t feel stupid at all! We learn to trust or believe the people around us, especially if we haven’t done our own research. It’s not a bad thing to put trust in other people
