Hi, so my 8 month old got weighted the other day and he’s 22lbs 1oz. My HV said he’s overweight and that’s why he’s not standing. And that he also has an “immaturity” I see nothing wrong with him. He’s just a baby! He’s on Kendamil so that’s probably why he’s a chunk. It’s made me so upset and worried🥺 what’s everyone else’s 8 month old weighing?

My LB is 26lb and was 7lb 15 when he was born at 38 weeks. He is tall for his age, everyone says not to worry when they start to walk they drop all their weight…

My 8 month old is 22lb also exclusively breastfed never a drop of formula so I wouldn't worry about that making him a chunk. He's also just started pulling himself up to stand in his cot and even that's quite wobbly. My daughter was probably the same weight and was walking at 8 months(honestly she was a different breed) I'd ignore her if I'm honest 😂 x

9Ib born, 23Ib 16oz at 7 months and 3 weeks. My little is one long, and his daddy is tall. Not stopping him by any means as been crawling for weeks and pulls himself to standing. Also on Kendamil!

If he is still following (ish) along the same centile line then he is absolutely fine.

All babies are different, I'd ignore all of that personally. My 2.5yo is only 26lb. He is perfectly healthy, noone ever tells me he is underweight 🤣 they only want to complain when your baby is big

My boy is 8 months today, I had him weighed on Wednesday and he’s 24lb 1oz and was 9lb 11oz when born. My HV said he’s perfect, certainly not overweight! He’s following his centile chart perfectly which is what matters so try not to compare to other babies as they are all different. Your HV sounds like an idiot though so don’t pay any attention and maybe ask to see a different one on your next visit! X

If he was born 9lb I’d imagine he’s the same centile roughly? Can’t believe you have been spoken to like that. It says average for 8 months is 18-22lb so is still within ‘average’. Makes me so angry you have been spoke to like that.

My little girl is 19lb and she was 9lb 8.5oz born. Babies develop at there own pace not a pace expected for them

Thank you everyone! This is made me feel a bit better. He was nearly 9lbs when he was born so I know he might be a bit bigger than some?🤣 It’s all so confusing. I don’t understand the immaturity comment either. He just doesn’t want to be on his feet yet and that’s okay🥺🥺

I don’t think Kendamil makes a difference. We are on it too & is the same calories as all the other formulas ☺️ I think my girl is around 19/20lb but she was always 25th centile until we started on carobel milk thickner and now a chunk 😂 it’s packed with calories but it’s for her reflux and only thing that works. Sounds like an awful HV … I don’t understand how a baby can be immature what does she even mean? 🤯 I don’t think many babies at 8 months can stand unless super advanced

What a ridiculous thing to say about an 8 month baby 🫣 Absolute nonsense. My little girl is on Kendamil. She just turned 8 months old on Tuesday and she had her 8 month check up with our HV the same day. She now weighs 17lb 13oz and is on the 50th centile. She has 3x 7oz bottles per day plus 1x 5oz bottle but we are cutting this down and phasing it out. Recently introduced lunch so is having 3 small meals per day. She is good at standing but absolutely cannot stand on her own. Sounds to me like your little boy is growing and developing as he should x

That’s not true. My son is the same weight, he’s a week off being 9 months and has only just started standing/ holding himself up on the sofa. He has a jumperoo and will stand in that for ages but gets lazy when he knows I’m there to catch/hold him. It’s purely down to if they have developed enough muscle. Yes lighter babies might have it easier but that doesn’t mean they’re more healthy or advanced. Also why the rush? It annoys me that some people (your HV in this case) look for the negative and not the fact you have a healthy, happy thriving baby that you’re dedicating your life to! There’s no one size fits all approach. Ignore them and keep being the great mum you are! X

I know loads of people who give their babies Kendamil and not a chunk? Every baby is different and your HV should not have said that! Your baby is perfect and will stand in their own time, it’s still so early! Ignore her xx

That's a nonsense. It is not expected to stand up at 8 months .

Er he's not standing coz he's 8m old! Doesn't sound like the hv is very clued up. I wouldn't worry yourself about it. Weight is very subjective on its own anyway, without considering height, percentile chart, etc as well. Not sure what my boy weighs, he was nearly 18lbs a couple of months ago.

My little boy is just under 22 lb, also on kendamil, and has been standing for a while... absolute nonsense! All babies develop at their own pace. My lo has been determined to move, and so he is, regardless of weight. Not all babies can fall on the 50th percentile! Some have to be at either end for there to be a curve... doesn't mean it's unhealthy!

My LB weights 18lb 13oz but I wouldn't worry! I reckon the average is around 18-22lb x
