Baby gates! Top of the stairs or at their bedroom door?

Our little one is only 3 months so she’s not on the move yet but just looking for advice for future reference. We have a baby gate at the bottom on the stairs but I’m just wondering is it better to put it at the top of the stairs or at their bedroom door?

It depends… how likely is it that she will spend time on other upstairs rooms, e.g. your bedroom and the bathroom? Because having the gate at the top of the stairs caters for all of those situations.

We’ve done top & bottom of the stairs. I’m a SAHM so he’s roaming about when I’m doing chores upstairs… nicer for him to have that freedom rather than just his bedroom xx

Bedroom for sure! I don’t want my baby anywhere near the stairs. He has already learned how to stand up and he shakes the baby gate we have in our living room. I’ve had his baby gate in the bedroom doorway since he learned how to crawl at 6 months (he’s 9 months now)

I would say it depends on where you are going to spend the most time, we had it at the bottom of the stairs with our first as we only went upstairs to sleep/shower in which case we could shut the doors. Now we have it at top of the stairs since we have 2 kids to keep an eye on. I think it's whatever makes you feel less anxious!

I'm gonna get a tall pet gate and put it at the bedroom door, we rent so I'll only be able to get the pressure fit ones so don't wanna risk it coming loose and him going down the stairs with it

Ours is at the stairs but our stairs are on a corner so if he did manage to push through it somehow he wouldn't fall straight down if that makes sense. I prefer it as he can wander around the upstairs and I just keep the bathroom door shut rather than him limited to just his bedroom. However I may move it once he's in a big bed so he can't roam about in the middle of the night! 🤣

We have our at the top and bottom of the stairs. As the other moms said, this way baby can stay with you upstairs when you do something and doesn’t have to be “locked up”. Mine follows me everywhere, he would stay in his bedroom.

We have both, but he’s in a double bed so the one on his door is only really to keep him in his room overnight

I have a babydan retractable stair gate both at the top and bottom of the stairs. My lb is 17months, i love giving him the freedom to roam upstairs, that's why i chose it. Plus his bedroom door literally opens onto the stairs so it made more sense this way x

We have one at top and bottom of stairs and on LOs bedroom (only for night time/falling asleep

Thanks for your responses everyone! I’m thinking I’ll put it at the top of the stairs so she’ll still have her freedom but I’ll go with a pressure fit one so it’s easy enough to move to her bedroom door if we need to🥰 thanks again!

Top of the stairs for us.. it makes life so much easier for say your running the bath and going back and forth or just doing jobs like hoovering and little one is upstairs with you
