Moses basket & cradle for downstairs. Worth it?

I screen shotted a really nice looking Moses basket ages ago and just came across it again. I was wondering if anyone actually used anything like this downstairs in the day? Or should baby always be put for a nap in the cot? We have dogs, so anything to keep the baby raised (when we are in the room of course!) when they are potentially having a nap could be good. Any opinions welcome!

Yeah Moses basket is great for downstairs!

Moses baskets don’t last very long as they’re so small. We use one but it’s a really big one and intended to last up to six months. It lasted my first about 4 months because he was long (as is new baby) but it’s still more useful than the tiny baskets that last only a few weeks. If you want something that will last I’d go for a travel cot or just use the pram. But make sure the pram is safe for sleep if you do that.

I bought a hauck dreamer crib from online4baby. In the sale at the moment. It was £50 which is only a little bit more than a decent moses basket and it will last my son until he is about 9 months......he is already almost too big for both moses baskets and he is only 4 weeks old.

I got Moses basket had it gifted to me and bought new matress for it but I use the carry cot on the pram has it bigger and more spacious xx

We have a Moses basket for the lounge and it was great for the first few weeks for naps but he now refuses to be put in it or put down to nap, so be prepared if you’re paying out a lot of money for one you may not get much use out of it.

My Moses basket lasted 6 months for my LO and was amazing for downstairs! I would 100% recommend

We used the carry cot from the pram x

We used our Moses basket for the first few months upstairs because he didn’t like the next to me crib. I was told they are too big and spacious for babies at first by the HV and other women on here. He is now in his next to me crib and the Moses has gone downstairs for daytimes! Definitely suggest getting one!

It is hard to say, I got a bassinet as well but my baby didn’t want to sleep in it past 2 weeks, he then only napped on me until 5 months and then he only slept in his crib. It’s a trial and error thing so I wouldn’t spend too much money on it

I loved our Moses basket but we really only got one month out of it as she's long and likes to stretch her arms out. However, unlike a lot of baby gear Moses baskets can be easily repurposed for something else afterwards as they are just nice baskets. We got one because it was more eco friendly than a bassinet.

I bought a chicco 4 in 1 and it’s light enough to carry down each day and it’s big enough that she will be in for ages yet. It also turns into a high chair and a low chair so can be used up to 3 years old x

This is great thanks guys! I might look at an inexpensive one ti start with just in case they grow out of it quickly or don’t like it x

We have one in our flat to be used until he gets a bit bigger and can use cot x

I used moses basket downstairs for 6 months it was great look on marketplace etc for one second hand that's what I did and have done for a few baby items, I started putting her in her cot for a day time nap just before she moved into her own room but had a next to me next to our bed for the first 6 months too

100% recommend. I got ours from Matalan for about £50 and it’s amazing. We still have it downstairs and my little one is almost 9 months (she is a small baby) x

Yes great for downstairs. But i only got 4 months usage as i have a long/tall LG 🙈 Only cost me £20 on FB and came with a new mattress

I used in living room. Only 3 time my baby slept in it because she was big baby she was hitting sides and waking herself up 😬 I used travel cot instead which was great. Sometimes used to use it as a ball pit 😂

We used the pram carry cot.

Ye I would defo recommend one for down stairs, I wouldn’t buy on new though. Can pick them up for free on fb market place and all bedding washable xx

My biggest deciding factor in NOT getting one for the living room is that I kept hearing babies grew out of it in a matter of weeks (sometimes as little as 4) and I just wasn’t sure how I’d be feeling postpartum. I’m almost a week pp and have barely left my bed even though I generally feel good. My baby was bigger than the midwife expected (estimated 7lbs, born 9lbs10oz) so he would have had little to no use out of it is my guess.

We have a Chicco hug 4-1. Everywhere I read said moses baskets weren’t worth the money because babies can only stay in them until they can stand. The Chicco hug works as a bassinet, can be tilted do baby can see you and can be used in a sitting position (comes with straps) and as a high chair later on (tray needs to be bought separately though). It also raises up and down which I found really useful when I was training my dog he couldn’t put his paws up on it. It also comes with day and night music.

@Ana yeah we love ours although our little girl hates the day time music 😂 xxx

I had a playpen that came with one of those and my son hated it. I never could get him to sleep in his crib but he would sometimes sleep in the playpen. I’ve wondered if he is claustrophobic or afraid of heights… so worth it if you use it, but I prefer things that grow with the kid to make me feel like the money is worth it.

I had a moses basket downstairs which was great for napping. But she grew out of it quickly so it then had a play pen which she would play in and nap in. After she got more active I used the travel cot but upstairs in the spare room. I never napped her in her cot (even though she slept in it from 3 weeks old) as I wanted her to know that was night time sleep only. Worked well for us.
