Why is my baby licking everything

My 5 month 1 week old baby girl is licking EVERYTHING. When I put her on her tummy for tummy time she starts licking the play mat. She is licking the blankets, our phones, her toys, her dad’s hands, my face… literally everything. Her gums are not swollen so I don’t think she is teething yet. Is this normal?

They probably are teething once they start putting stuff in their mouth is definitely a sign for teething. Drooling is another sign and chewing on stuff too (like mine will chew on the metal part of her pacifier clip instead of the pacifier lol).

It's not necessarily a sign of teething. Young children explore the world by mouthing things.

My girl licks EVERYTHING. If she can get it to her mouth, she's gonna try to lick it or chew on it. I think it's about exploring new sensations. It definitely means they are interested in their surroundings! Sounds like a healthy, curious baby to me. 🥰 I just keep the unsafe licking things out of reach. Lol.
