Toothpaste?

What toothpaste do you guys use for your babies? My son is 6 months and has 4 teeth and I really need to start brushing them until I’m able to call insurance and find a local dentist for him! Do you use toothpaste? If you do what kind do you use? If you don’t, do you just use water to brush them or just a silicone brush? Pic of my little man wearing his uncle’s hat for attention ❤️

My son has that onesie and I love it

none, don’t need too

I just use a baby toothbrush we have

I use the Hello brand with my 11mo girl, she has 8 teeth since 8mo and eats 3 meals a day so I use a teeny tiny amount on a kids brush At night but the silicone one in the morning

To start with we just used a silicone toothbrush with tap water, and now we use Jack and Jill (all natural and fluoride free!)

@Cat does ur little one like the taste of the Jack and Jill? I use the hello brand but i noticed she doesn’t really like the flavor.

I don’t use toothpaste, it’s unnecessary

We just use the same one we use. Less than a grain of rice amount but the same kind. The kids toothpaste is really just for different flavors

My 8 month old has 2 teeth and I just use a Colgate one that came with his toothbrush and he likes it

@Alyse children's toothpastes are usually fluoride free; there are a lot of issues tied to ingesting fluoride so children should not be using a fluoride toothpaste until they can adequately spit and not swallow any of it. Just clarifying that there are differences between children's and adult's besides just flavor.

No need for toothpaste yet, as long as you're brushing you're getting any plaque off, which is what's important.

@Alyse not really true.

Following

Fluoride free toothpaste and make sure to get behind the little teeth

When we took our 10 month old to the dentist she actually said to use the kids one with fluoride. A tiny amount. Said after they turn one the way their mount cleans bacteria changes. She even said to floss like every other day. and to brush in the morning and at night. I had been using the Dr browns fluoride free one before we went. She’s now almost 13 months old. And no issues

^ don’t listen to people saying to use water or non fluoride tooth paste. Used to be a dental nurse and we advised over the age of 6 months and if the teeth have erupted then yes to use a tiny bit of fluoride toothpaste to protect the enamel. If ur using just tap water nothing is being protected. You can also research on NHS website to back this up! Hope this helps!

You can also research the effects of ingesting too much flouride; dentists used to prescribe fluoride pills.. my sister-in-law has fine teeth but wasn't able to have children...

@Sarah ingesting too much fluoride doesn’t affect fertility not too sure where you’ve seen that or heard that from. But that is false. Having too much can cause dental fluorosis, hence you only use a tiny amount on babies teeth. But if you just use water or Jon fluoride then a babies teeth is not getting protected and will get decay

*non

@Briony really? Because I have always used non fluoride until they could spit well and all of them have healthy teeth.

@Erin yes! It’s what we told all parents as fluoride is important for protecting teeth from decay. Yes your children may have healthy teeth without using fluoride, but different children have different sugar intake. So it is recommended that you use a small amount of fluoride toothpaste to protect regardless. Plus it’s extra peace of mind there fully protected I guess!

@Briony not true really...unless babies n kids eat a lot of sugar and stuff that can harm their teeth. My aunt is a dental hygienist and she told me water is fine and eventually I can use a non fluoride toothpaste until a certain age then switch to fluoride bc you're still getting the plaque n stuff off their teeth when using water. So, to each their own I guess!

@Briony I don’t believe that’s true esp if a child is getting a fluoride treatment while there (which is standard in the US).

@Erin fluoride treatment is usually on the tips and that’s on a dental visit which is how ever many times a year you go.

@Jen yep each to there own. I personally would stick to a dentists opinion😇and what I was taught for my course when I was a student. Getting plaque and protecting teeth from decay is completely different but do what works for you and what you prefer to do!

People will be told different theories of how to go about toothpaste for the los. But go into the NHS website

@Briony lol yep I'll also trust someone who is family and who has worked with a dentist for like 25yrs! Pretty sure she isn't going to give me advice that us going to cause my kids teeth to rot lol

@Jen no need for sarky comments. So unless ur saying the NHS are wrong in general.. then crack on with ur non fluoride toothpaste. I’m not telling you to change your toothpaste I’m trying to give the person who created this post the correct information.

@Briony I'm not being snarky, simply stating. I am not from GB, nor is OP...so we don't go by NHS as that is in GB

@Briony OP is not in GB so the NHS guidelines aren’t what she’d go by. OP is in the US. Fluoride treatment is done on the whole tooth here and we see dentists every 6months. Also, I do exactly what the dentist has told me 😊

I didn’t say you was snarky. I said sarky… but ok😂and it shouldn’t matter where your from 🤭🤣teeth are teeth. But if America advise you not to use fluoride for some reason then how odd… NHS is our health care provider in GB so I think il stick to there advise

@Erin haha as I said above. Teeth are teeth and it’s not just nhs that say to use fluoride. Tones and tones of other websites also say to use fluoride. And we also go to the dentist every 6 months. Your acting like we’re completely different species this is hilarious. Bless you

@Erin huge differences between GB and the US and Canada...I find Canada and the US are more on the same page vs GB

@Jen eek. Then the US has overall poor mouth hygiene by the sounds of it. If you tell our dentists your using water to wash your children’s teeth you’ll get a lecture and a funny look 🤣

Maybe you should take some advice from the GB..

My parents used fluoride on my teeth from my first tooth as advised and I have no fillings or decay…

@Briony a) I'm not in the states so maybe look at a profile before assuming where ppl are from and b) from what I have seen Canadians and Americans have much better teeth than a lot of ppl in GB...so I think I'll stick to what we are told where we live lol Good for you, a lot of ppl have healthy teeth and sometimes hereditary things come into play when it comes to bad teeth. Have a great day!

@Jen dunno where you’ve heard about US having better teeth than the UK that’s hilarious. and no shame at all as that’s not who I am. But to the both of you saying to me about oral hygiene you both don’t look like you have the best type of Teeth. So crack on with ur ways. No problem at all. All I was doing was giving advice…

And I shouldn’t have to look where people are from.. when people ask for advice I give it. Teeth are teeth.

@Briony lol my teeth are fine thanks, as are my son's 😊

@Jen ^ just for you

@Briony lol 👌 Like I said, have a great day!😊

@Jen you too! And maybe you should also read up to ur fellow us and Canadian folks who are also claiming there dentists say to use fluoride.. so it’s not just the UK. Ta ta 😘

@Briony you're still going on?🙄

@Erin there's also fluoride in our water where I live so another reason we don't have to use toothpaste with it lol

What the actual fuck?

@Erin seriously? A pea sized amount does no harm to a baby. You really need to educate yourself. And has nothing to do with you being American cos a lot of American mums above have also said there dentists have said to use fluoride and they use fluoride. Anything wrong with there children? no! Anything wrong with me? no! too much fluoride causes dental fluorosis which is extreme levels of fluoride given or if in a high level fluoride water area. Honestly do ur research before giving out facts. Poor

@Jen all tap water contains fluoride dummy. Not enough to protect against decay though. Lord seriously educate yourself! Your making a fool out of urself

@Erin I thought you might delete ur comment as it was nonsense

@Briony now you're name calling? How nice of you! I will go by what I have been told and you can do the same. Enough already!
