Flying with Turkish airlines - formula on board

Did anyone fly with Turkish airlines , could you please share how did you take the formula on board ? I read that we can take liquid foods for Baby as long as it’s in the 100 ml containers - so I guess we can’t take pre-made formula as it’s in 200 ml containers ? 😬 Now I’m wondering what’s the best to do in this case , can we take as much powdered formula as we want ? I’d really appreciate any advice ! xx thanks !

There is no liquid limit for babies. You can take as much through security as you want. You just need to put it to one side and they test it in a machine. I flew 24 hours to Australia with formula powder and a flask. I got hot water airside and made it up as and when. I also took pouches of purée and other liquids. You can even take premade bottles, the mls don’t count xxx

Same here - we took formula that we had already packed into the right amount e.g. little containers with 7 scoops (did this for convenience rather than any restrictions). We also took ready boiled water within bubs bottles and took ready made bottles of formula (we took quite a few) and pouches/other snacks. They just made us take it out all out and scanned it separately. No issues with how much we took. All the baby liquids were over 100 ml, I think we may have even taken calpol with us (I can't remember if this was in hand luggage or checked in luggage).

Thanks for the info ! @Maria @Sarah have you travelled with Turkish airlines or other ones? Thanks !

@Kamila other ones but the security rules are worldwide. There’s no individual liquid limits for airlines, just the airport rule. You can technically get airside and buy litres of liquid and walk onboard. I’ve flown BA, Qantas, Qatar and EasyJet and never an issue. As airport boots are STOCKED with premade formula in case of emergency xx

Yeah @Maria we took calpol through too, lifesaver for ears popping. The BA staff also have calpol onboard for free xx

@Sarah oh yeah that’s true !!! Thanks so much for making me realising this 🤣it’s not about the airline it’s true. Hopefully we won’t have any issues ! Have a lovely day xx

@Kamila I hope you have an amazing holiday and flight. Take as much as you want. Check your pram in at the gate and give a bottle for take off and landing, babies are actually great travellers (it’s the adults who are annoying onboard 😂) xxx

@Kamila we flew with anadolu jet (which is part of the Turkish Airlines family I believe) also flown with Ryan Air to Morocco with bubs. Both airlines were fine - never had to ask them for any extra liquids but I'm sure they would provide it if you needed it as I made sure to pack enough 😅 and had extra pre-made formula for the flights back too. You should be fine - maybe just give yourself a little bit of extra time for check in (because of the extra checks).

@Sarah yes babies are good and usually very excited by all the lights and action and people at airports 😅

@Sarah thaaaanks ! 😊it’s going to be our first long flight with our lo , but I’m sure it’s going to be fine! Sorry for a stupid question, I heard that the bottles might have too much pressure inside while taking off / landing , but also everyone recommends to give a bottle during this time for avoiding earache, I’m just not sure how it works 🤣 should I remove the lid off or not . I’ve been breastfeeding before , so I have no idea about all these nuances on bottle feeding . Thanks so much for all your tips ! xxx

@Maria ah nice , thanks !) I‘ve read now that Baby milk is exempt from the 100 ml rules. Great news as it’s going to make everything much easier with pre-made formula 😊 thanks !!! And have a lovely day 🌸

@Kamila no pressure in the bottle, it’s flat liquid not pressurised like coke. Just like drinking a bottle of water really, they don’t expand on planes. I made the bottle up before boarding so it was cool enough. You board first, get settled in your seats and keep your bag of tricks ready under the seat. Strap baby in the lap strap and then just feed as normal during takeoff. If baby isn’t hungry, a dummy works. It’s just suction when the pressure changes that fixes their ears. We’ve never had any tears though so I don’t know if it’s actually as bad as it’s made out to be xxx

Same here - no tears, completely agree that it's always helpful to have the bottle ready for take off in case your baby does get upset (new experience may also be a bit overwhelming). I've never had an issue with pre made bottles so hopefully should be fine. I hope you have a lovely trip! X

Thanks so much both of you for this all useful info!! 💜🌸

You can take powder formula Turkish airlines provides hot water if you ask for some & there are shops after you go past security so you can just buy what you need from there liquid form x
