Nail polish

So this is going to sound stupid but I've just been with my sister in law she saw I had gellish on my feet and told me im not aloud to wear it when giving birth. I'm under midwife so thought it would be fine but she was adiment I wasn't aloud to wear any sort of nail vanish. I suppose though if I have it on they can't exactly take it off in the hospital. Has anyone else been told this?

They say it’s because they can’t pick up your oxygen levels with those finger clips well, but I have BIAB they can pick mine up fine everytime I’ve had it done and I haven’t been told to take it off x

I wouldn't worry too much, when I had my boy I had gel polish on my nails (I had just got married) and they didn't mind too much, I even had to go for surgery and they didn't try to remove it or anything ☺️

Don't worry, I'm in hospital now and not one midwife has been bothered and I have it on toes and fingers

I’ve heard mixed things about this but generally I don’t think it’s an issue. I’m planning to keep my hands clear but will have a pedi on toes. I use regular polish though and so if they needed to get it off they could. I’ve had surgery before where I’ve needed it off my fingers for this reason. Remember women go into spontaneous labour and earlier than expected so I’m sure lots have polish on and it’s not anything that has been mentioned by a midwife to me.

Don’t worry about it the midwives were complimenting me on my nails when I went in. I was also under the midwife led ward

My midwife actually told me to go and get my nails done and have a pedicure as it helps oxytocin levels which makes you feel happy, calm & relaxed which helps with labour. I was induced on Thursday and delivered my baby yesterday morning with acrylic nails on and everything was fine! They usually say that you should have no colour on your nails for a planned c section as they can tell your oxygen levels through the colour of your nail beds but not every hospital enforces this xx
