Two car seats?

Im a first time mum and me and my partner both have cars. We’ve already ordered the car seat for baby which will go in my car as I’ll be driving him around the most, but me and my partner was discussing, is it worth getting a second (cheaper, potentially second hand) car seat for the other car when we use that one? Not sure how easy it is to swap the base etc over to another car once it’s been fitted! I just wondered if anyone else had thought about this or was considering it? Thanks

We have two car seats. You shouldn’t buy second hand though as you cannot be sure of its history. Car seats should not be used if they have been in any accidents etc. we got the Joie 360 baby to toddler car seat for me husbands car and it was £200 for the whole thing (base and seat) the car seat we are using for my car care as part of my pram bundle. We originally were just going to get an extra base for my husbands car and move the seat between the two. But we realised it would actually cost more on the long run. The bases on their own are still a couple of hundred quid. And once you move up to toddler car seat size they are mainly static and can’t be moved from base to base so we’d eventually of had to buy two complete new car seats once she moved up to next size. This way I only need to buy the next size up car seat for my car which is still compatible with my base. On swapping base over though if your cars both have iso fix it is very easy to move from one car to another

Cont* it only takes a couple of minutes to set it up. We just decided to go for two for convenience as I know if I was ready to go then realised I needed to move the car seat over I’d get annoyed 😂

We bought two cosatto all in all from when baby is toddler to 12, one for each car. We’ve got just the one baby seat for now, but do have a spare from our first born if it’s ever needed x

We’ve got one car seat but two bases. So we can have a base in each car and the car seat is easy to put in either. The main reason we decided this over just buying another seat was the one we’ve got lies flat and can be used on the pram which will make it easier when travelling to family etc and I couldn’t justify the cost of buying another one x

We have two car seats but only one isofix base in my car and my partner just strapped the seat in with the belt x

@Luce completely get where you are coming from with second hand, although what I meant by second hand is it would come from a family member where we would know of history etc! 😊 I wouldn’t dare buy second hand from somewhere I didn’t know. We did consider a second base but yeah they are very expensive x

While she’s still in her baby seat I’ll have the base fixed in my car and then when we go out in my husbands we’ll just use the seatbelt to buckle it in. Once she moves to a bigger seat we’ll discuss whether we bother getting two or just using one car as our main family car which has her seat and then the other car

I’ve got the cybex cloud Z2 car seat that goes on my egg pram and it will be me mainly driving around whilst my OH is back at work. I was thinking of getting a second car seat too but fortunately my friend has given me an isofix base so we’re going to put that one in my partners car, that way we can just move the car seat as and when between both cars ☺️ x

I have 2 💗 I don't drive so we bought one for his car and one that we can keep in doors for if I go out with someone or when I eventually do drive x

Get two isofix bases so the car seat can be moved and clicked in a lot easier ?

@Laura that’s the one we have too! I’m thinking it might be best to just just get another base now everyone’s mentioning it! xx

@Holli us too! But only thing putting me off a second base is that they are expensive as well and it won’t be often enough that we use my husband car for it to be worth the money

We just swapped the car seat from car to car with my first. When you get the hang of it it takes like 5 mins to switch

You can use the buggy’s car seat set for one car and buy a baby-toddler transition seat for the other so eventually your baby will grow into it too and you won’t need the car seat no longer :)

Also, car seats can be put into the car without a base. You just use the seatbelt to secure it in place
