Leaving the hospital

Does anyone know what the actual rules are surrounding when we take baby home after he’s born? I thought we HAD to carry him out in a car seat? My partner doesn’t like this and is like ‘why can’t I just carry him out in my arms and put him in the car seat in the car?’ I’m not fussed either way I’m just looking for a way to explain to my partner why baby should be in a car seat?

They like to check for fit and safety purposes.

I was told it varies from hospital to hospital so you would need to check but we had to carry her out in her car seat and they checked she was strapped in correctly before letting us go. They briefly explain the straps etc so maybe it’s a car seat safety thing?

They also want the car seat in the room so it comes up to.the rooms temperature before baby goes into it..

Generally you not allowed to carry a newborn baby around and about in hospital which is why the cots all have wheels so you don’t need to, it’s the same sort of reason why they want the car seat- it’s safer, and they can do some basic safety checks as mentioned above x

We've got a fixed car seat and my mums a midwife at the hospital I plan to give birth, she's just said to tell them it's fixed and they'll wheel us to the door and we take over from there. Try not to overthink things and just do what makes you feel comfortable x

I watched a mum carry out her newborn as I was going in for a scan the other day. It made me feel sick, she was totally zoned in on him, all it would of took was an uneven slab for her and the baby to go flying and to really seriously hurt the baby 🫣
