Potty training using oh crap method

Posting incognito only out of respect for my son as I'm talking about his pees and poo! Anyone else familiar with the "oh crap" method? We have just come to the end of day 1 and I am exhausted! We only did half a day as little one had football this morning so we thought we'd let him go to that and then start this afternoon. He did manage 2 wees and the tiniest poop in the potty, but also many many wees on the floor. I'm just so worried we are trying to do this too soon! But having read the book like a Bible, I'm under the impression giving up would be the worst thing to do

We potty trained using this method. First day was tiring although all but 1 wee went in the potty and poo went on the floor. Don’t give up it gets easier. Also if you read the book like a bible you know they go from clueless-I peed-peeing-I need to pee…. He might be at the clueless stage so it takes a bit longer, my son was in between I peed and I’m peeing when we started so was quite simple but still exhausting. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for you.

I did basically this method but the pace was set by the kid not by so many days of this and then so many days of that. So a little potty use at first, the bare bum at home only, then bottoms on at home I think, then out of the house and then when they have it nailed underwear. Much slower than whatever is in the book but they were much younger anyway.

I feel like he knows he's peeing, maybe not before today but as he's naked he looks down to watch it. But it seems as though us running him to the potty when he pees or gives what we think is his cue he's about to, makes him freeze up and hold it. We put a puppy training pad on his highchair to protect it while he was eating just incase..the one time of the day we couldn't see what was going on down there and he did the biggest pee ever. Like he'd been waiting to feel that absorbent material under his little bum and for a bit of privacy! Fingers crossed we see some more progress tomorrow!

Definitely a good sign that he knows he’s doing it. I found myself saying a lot (and still do) remember wee or poo goes in the…. (He says potty) not the floor, so tel mummy when you need to go or potty is there when you need to go. 🙂

I did a bit of potty training a few months ago but stopped it. I could tell she wasn't ready. The idea that "they'll get all their wee in the potty because they don't like the feeling of being wet" is not realistic. Neither of my kids have cared if they got some wee on their legs or even in undies. And my little girl is full toddler and won't stand still to get her butt wiped, just runs off like it's hilarious. So yeah now is not the time. If it's absolutely not working, you can stop. Feel free to try another couple of days but Oh Crap absolutely does not have a 100% success rate and you're not ruining everything if you stop.

@Ella this tho! It's so nice to see a realistic idea of potty training because I was starting to wonder what I was doing wrong! 😅 I feel like people don't really talk about the weeing and pooing everywhere but the potty! I have tried once before and aim to try again soon but the thought of poop and wee on carpets really puts me off 🙈😅

@Ella yeah, I just don't know. He just is not bothered about peeing on the floor right now. I got a glimmer of hope this morning, he had a little dribble, stopped what he was doing, sat on the potty and did a full wee. But then nothing...the rest have been on the floor, soon as he's on the potty he stops. I'm ready to throw in the towel but other half is super keen to keep going... we'll see if that changes come Friday when I'm in work all day! And we are putting pants on him tomorrow because we just can't take another day cooped up inside and our garden is way too overlooked for him to be running about naked! Thank you for the kind and honest support!

If you google it the average age for a boy to potty train is 36 months so right on 3. If they potty train at this age they are absolutely getting trained early. So if he's not ready, there's nothing wrong with him 😊

How’s it going?

@Natisha he's back in nappies! We got 3 days in with no improvement and I could tell he was feeling incredibly anxious (and I was too so sure he was picking up on it). We did think it might have been a bit too soon but we had an opportunity where we both were off work so took a chance. We'll give it another shot in a couple of months.

Sounds like it was for the best if everyone was anxious. If he can’t already work on teaching him to pull down his own trousers over the next few months because I’m still having to do it for my LO 🙂

@Natisha that's a good idea, he is totally lazy and will let us do everything for him so we will focus on dressing and undressing until we're ready to go again!

Good luck 😊
