Just been diagnosed!

I’ve been started on 25 micrograms for hypothyroidism- runs in my family so no surprise. The brain fog and being tired are crazy! How long did it take you to regulated once you started meds?

I’ve had an under active thyroid all my life sadly - also genetic. My mom got diagnosed around the same time. Here are a few things I’ve learnt personally over the years: The best time to take the meds are first thing in the morning & wait 30 mins (at least) before you eat or drink anything. Taking the meds at the same time every day will help you remember to take them. I found taking it at night kept me up all night - won’t do that again lol 😂 Encourage the doctors to test it every 6 months, even after they say they’re satisfied with the dose. You may be a little bit more prone to feeling depressed and low going forward. Speak to your GP/Dr if this is the case. Since it’s a chronic medication, if you’re living in the UK and using the NHS, you can speak to the GP practice about getting the medical exemption card. Then you don’t pay for the medicine. I hope this helps 😅 feel free contact me if you have any more questions 😉

Thank you! All the same advice my family has also given me. It is a bit of a shame about the low mood but will deal with it as it comes I think. Have you had any tummy issues linked to it, as well? I’m looking to understand what best food to have in addition to the meds first thing in the morning.

Hehe ok fair enough 🤭 I’m glad they’ve given you advice to help prepare you. So yeah personally I’m prone to colon issues personally. However a few members of my family have issues with gluten. It seems my family have issues digesting the gluten and have a slower metabolism. Have you had any stomach issues so far? Apparently oats are a great idea tho I don’t like it.
