How much maternity leave were you given at your job?

Wondering if any ladies (especially in the US) work for companies that give paid maternity leave. If so, how much did you get? Our company does not give any, my job goes by the federal outlines for FMLA and my job is guaranteed for 12 weeks - I was able to use vacation time to cover my deductions, which was a big help, and I got some money from my short term disability insurance. I just feel like it isn't enough!

It depends how big ur business is i hd 8 weeks unpaid

FMLA requires 12 weeks. Unpaid unless you use your vacation time, which could be very little after having to use it to take time off for appointments and whatnot... after the 13 weeks, I was not ready to leave her and became a SAHM. Best decision ever.

12 weeks off and $4000 3 months after baby was born💓

It’s not enough! I’m in Canada where the federal guidelines are much more accommodating and I don’t know how you American mamas do it 😭 . We get unemployment insurance if we work enough in the year leading to maternity leave to qualify. It’s not good pay but it’s enough to get by if you prepare by saving ahead. Good luck 🤗

We get 1 year of federal unemployment insurance at 55% of income (up to a max that works out to be under $500/week CAD after tax) or you can spread the same amount over 18 months (depending on the province, this legislature just went through in October where I live) so it’s 33% income up to a max, I think the max is around $300/week CAD after tax. If you work for the employer less than 1 year before going off they do not have to hold your job. I did not get topped up by my employer with my first (some employers do) and then changed jobs and got pregnant shortly after starting so I won’t get topped up by this employer either and may not have a job to return to. 🤷‍♀️

I got 6 months total unpaid - counted from leaving before baby was here (I left 5 weeks before she was born)

Mine pays for 4 weeks at full pay and then you can take up to 12 total under FMLA but the remainder is unpaid. I think they give 2 more paid weeks if you deliver by c-section but I'm not 100% sure.

I got about 2/3 month but had to exhaust all my vacation. I also used 2 disability policies i had to help pay my bills. I’m actually still on child care leave due to home renovations and child care issues. Child care is so expensive and I’m not so trusting of folks with my kid even people I’ve known for years. My daughter bout to be a year next year but I’m going back a lil after her bday

Who do you work for

NYC children Services.

My company gave my a year off unpaid.

Wow!!

My company has you do 6 weeks short term disability at 60% pay and then the company covers the additional 40% plus 3 more weeks. So 9 weeks paid total. Sorry if that doesn’t make much sense, not sure how to word it better.

4 weeks before baby came, 6 weeks disability and 6 weeks baby bonding. This was all paid by state disability (roughly 2/3 of my regular pay). I’m taking additional time but I’ll be using my vacation time that I’ve saved up.

3 months off, 1 month paid. It seems less common for places in Utah to have additional time off for maternity leave without having to use all your vacation and personal days. I did, however, negotiate more flexible work days/ hours— I worked from home 1 day a week while pregnant and will up that to 3 days a weeks once I go back to work. I’ve only worked for locally own and operated companies. I’m sure if the company is large enough that it spans in other states there are corporate policies that grant more time off and maybe more paid time.

I got 8 weeks of short term disability plus 6 weeks of parental leave so 14 weeks total. I also got three weeks before my due date. I realize I’m insanely lucky.

Sorry if this is irrelevant, but things are a bit different here in the UK. Any woman with a contract is entitled to maternity pay, providing she had gotten pregnant 2+ weeks into starting the job, and not beforehand. A woman is entitled to 39 weeks paid maternity leave, and an additional 13 weeks unpaid. In the first 6 weeks of maternity leave, we are paid 90% of our wages, and for the next 33 weeks, we are paid either 90% of our wages OR £145.18p ($186.48) - whichever is lower. I'd been with my company 3 months when I fell pregnant. They were absoloutely adamant they didn't owe me maternity pay, even though I had signed a 12 month contract. They tried offering me a promotion with more pay and a new contract, but there was a clause - the contract was "temporary"... I wasn't falling for it.

Wow!!

When I had my first child I was working at European wax center for about 1.5 yrs An they only offered 2 weeks UNpaid medical leave🙄, for a company that employs about %90 women (waxing exclusively) it should be more. Fair to say on baby number 2 I’ve been long gone👋

Here in MA :) 6 weeks of short term disability (60% pay) + 1 week paid 100% by employers, 1 week of pto... And I'm taking 4 weeks of unpaid time (thank God for tax returns!)... I don't qualify for FMLA as Im only 8 months with the company 😫 Best that I could do... Especially being a single mum

I got 8 weeks paid but could take up to 12 weeks. (Remaining unpaid) plus I could use my PTO.

4 weeks 😩😭 I had only been working there (and in this state) for 8 months so I didn’t qualify for FMLA or anything. I got 8 weeks because of severe postpartum depression and anxiety (so all 8 weeks were disability, not actually maternity leave).

No pay for any of it. I did get disability $ from the state though.

I didnt get any. Hadnt worked long enough for fmla and my job didnt give any, so i just quit

6 weeks, paid but it was all my sick leave and vacation for the year! :( granted, I am a doctor and this is typical but still. Not enough time.

12 weeks paid but I can’t add PTO days to it.

I’m in Winchester va and I was there a couple months I only got 6 weeks with I pay but I put my two weeks in before maternity leave

I’m in the navy and they give 84 days of maternity leave. Used to be 18 weeks then they took it to 16 weeks and then to 84 days.

Two months unpaid . I did get the opportunity to take three months but I decided against it . I saved up and made it work ! Next baby I’ll be a stay at home mommy for the year ❤️but we have to many finances to pay this time around

3 years paid leave per child, plus about 8к a year from government as support for child’s needs. Plus all kindergarten and elective education (like sports) paid 80% by government. But this is not USA .

I got 4 months with full pay

Deloitte gives 16 weeks of paid leave plus one month of PTO per year and is incredibly supportive of working moms!!! It’s a mix of STD and the rest paid by them. They have tons of openings in the US and also offer dependent day care savings accounts and free breast pumps thru the lactation support program.

4 months

I negotiated 3 months fully paid and to work remotely for 2 months afterwards. I left for a new job after the 2 months. I actually consult women in negotiating maternity leave with their employers and have helped several clients negotiate their leave. Happy to help if interested.

22 weeks fully paid. Break down- base paid partially (I think it’s 55 or 60%) by California disability for 6 weeks (that I pay into) and CA PFLA 6 weeks for bonding + my work makes me whole during that time at 100% pay then adds another 6 weeks. Then I’m taking my own Paid Time Off for 4 weeks. I work in the advertising technology industry. Amazing benefit for US work standards.

I received a total 6 months (24 weeks) from the time out went out on leave. I was not paid from work. I ate up all my sick leave and PTO hours. I was taken out on disability 5 weeks before giving birth and covered on state disability until 6 weeks after. During the time I was off I also chose to use my Paid Family Leave (6 weeks). I work in California and my employer allows the extra 12 weeks of bonding time on top of FMLA.

I’m in Connecticut where we have state fmla as well as federal. I took 8 months, all unpaid - I used up my sick/vacation/personal time and had just saved like crazy before baby came. It was totally worth it, I loved being able to devote that time just to my son. Maybe someday we will catch up to other developed countries in this area!

12 weeks unpaid. But I'm a teacher and was lucky enough to be able to time it so I'll be home for 6 months with summer break (unpaid, but they took my "summer pay" and divided it up along with some sick time so I get a little bit of money)

4 weeks pre, 16 weeks post -paid.

That’s awesome!

4monthes paid

20 weeks paid, I work for amazon in New Jersey

All I got was 6 weeks... unpaid!

Under FMLA I get 6 weeks because we have under 50 employees . No pay though, they offered short term disability but I would’ve had to have it for 10 months prior to being pregnant in order to receive any money from it.. 😒😒

12 weeks under FMLA then 4 more weeks under company pay.

My company follows FMLA but offers no compensation or Short term disability. I could only afford 10 weeks and used all my sick and vacation hours. It wasn’t enough!! 😭

I get 90 days, 100% paid (live in Oregon, work for a California company). Feels like a lot until I talk to people in any other country!

12 weeks and I got NYS paid family leave

I am about to work for Krispy Kreme and the GM said that they give maternity/paternity leave and he said that if he knows he will send up a box of hot donuts to the parents lol

I took 6 months. I was pretty much allowed to be gone as long as I wanted as it was completely unpaid 😫

In California you get 6 weeks with disability paid and 6 weeks for baby bonding paid so 12 weeks total

I get 12 weeks and must use any PTO I may have, after PTO is used it’s no pay and must do FMLA. 🙄

I get 6 weeks at 50 percent. No idea how I’m gonna manage that.

I get 12 weeks paid then I get 6 more weeks for pfl (paid family leave)

10 weeks paid at 100 percent

I was allowed up to 3 months but only 6 weeks were paid and they only paid me 60% of my normal salary. If you ttook more than the 6 weeks they used your PTO.
