North Manchester general hospital

Hi everyone, Just wonder if some of you gave birth at North Manchester and how was your overall experience? Was your partner allowed to stay at night? Thanks!

I had my twins at NMGH back in September 2022 - elective c section as I had twins. My husband wasn’t allowed to stay with me which was really sad because I was there for 6 days due to iron deficiency. After day 2 post c section *some* of the midwives would get pissy about me asking them to help me changing the twins, esp in the night. But there were some absolute lovely nurses and midwives also who literally looked after me until the moment I left the hospital door. And some were amazing at helping me get the girls to latch for BF. Overall it was alright experience, I would give birth there again but I just would be a lot more prepared mentally to what to expect.

I’ve given birth there twice, in 2020 and 5 weeks ago. I found all of the staff to be absolutely lovely, just very, very busy. I was in a high dependency Labour room for two days, my husband was allowed to stay for the entire two days and they got him a little roll up bed. When I was in the antenatal and postnatal wards I think the visiting hours were 9-6pm so he was only allowed in between those times.

Hey Amelie, I can't comment on North manchester for maternity but I decided to go with bolton because of the reviews and from hearing good things from others and so far I've had a really positive experience (I had a miscarriage last year there & felt in really safe hands) throughout my many visits to epu and for my scans this time around 😊🩷

I had an emergency section, partner wasnt allowed to stay once i had the baby only while i was in active labour on the labour ward

I’m also going north Manchester my first baby to this was good to read x

I had my little girl here 8 weeks ago. I was so looked after, not just during labour and the birth, but throughout my pregnancy too. The midwives were wonderful and I had everything I needed. The baby's dad was able to stay throughout labour and then that night after I had given birth (as I hadn't been moved back onto a labour ward yet). I know that once you're on the ward though, no one can stay overnight x

I had my little boy here 2 weeks ago (elective c section) on the postnatal ward visiting hours are 9-7, but my partner didn’t leave until around 10pm. It didn’t seem that strict with partners x

@Izzy was your partner aloud in with you for the cesarean itself and was you given your baby right after the procedure and left in with you over night and everything please?..I m having elective at NMG and still haven't had a comprehensive talk with the consultant over it 😋

@DANIELA i had an emergency section, partner is allowed in the room, your partner gets handed the baby until youre stitched up and then your partner has to leave when visiting times are finished. My partner was only allowed with me from the start of the procedure up until i was back on the delivery ward x

@DANIELA hey, yeah my partner was allowed with me for the section, we went down at 9am he was able to stay the whole day. He was given the baby straight away, I couldn’t have skin to skin in recovery as my body temp was too low! But once I’d warmed up back on the ward we had it. He stayed until 10pm some of the midwives are more strict than others x

I was induced in February, two birth partners allowed and they have to be the same 2 people visiting you whilst you're there. As far as I know no one is allowed to stay over unless you're classed as being in active labour on the labour ward. I had a really good experience there and don't have anything negative to say x

@Izzy thanks a lot!🤗 that s great, I m glad you had a nice experience with it, so important, I m really anxious 😋
