I gave birth at the St Michael's MLU last week and the midwives were absolutely amazing. I had a super quick birth, I was only in the MLU for one hour and the midwives coached me throughout the birth amazingly. I couldn't have done it without them! They were firm but kind, as I had hoped for a very different birth (lots of pain relief was what I had pictured!) but they made me feel safe when everything went in a different direction and I had to go forward with a natural birth. They helped me put my hypnobirthing breathing techniques into action (the only tools I had) and praised me throughout the whole journey. The room is amazing too, we walked in and my partner was like "this is like an Airbnb!" 😂 I think as I gave birth during the evening, my partner was allowed to stay for the first night. We were moved to Ward 73 and shared a room with 3 other new mums. It's good to know that partners aren't allowed a bed or to sleep on yours, so they have to sleep on a very stiff upright chair next to your bed!
I gave birth at St Michael’s hospital in the midwife led unit and they where absolutely amazing I couldn’t praise them enough! They where so lovely and supportive I also had a student midwife in her first year who was absolutely incredible! 🤍
I wasn’t in the midwife led unit as had a section however I was on the wards for about 10 days before birth and 3 days after. The midwives and support staff were all lovely and caring. Drs we’re very kind and knowledgeable. It’s a specialist maternity and NICU hospital so if anything goes wrong you’re in safe hands. I gave birth to my first and it was diabolical! X
Thanks all much appreciated. Had our 1st in lockdown and husband was only in for an 1hr after birth then 1hr daily visit for the days I stayed in afterwards. Didn’t even think about him being able to stay around afterwards! Thank you for sharing your experiences - I’m sure others will benefit from it too! 🤞🏻
Every hospital has good and bad stories but honestly i felt so supported by them and they were so attentive and on the ball it was amazing.
I had twins there 5 weeks ago. I was on ward 76 afterwards and cannot speak more highly of them, they are incredible. We were given our own room and my partner stayed every night and got a bed, every single member of staff there was incredibly kind and we felt so looked after, stayed 6 nights.
I had my son last June and I can remember the whole time I was there they made sure I was as comfortable as possible (even if I was rude to them during contractions). I was rushed for an emergency c section but the midwife who was looking after me until that point stayed with me when I went into the operating room, talked me through everything that was happening and even held my hand. The morning after I gave birth (my son was born at 1:07am) my dad rang me and told me my grandad was on his last legs and that they’d be going to say goodbye soon. My boyfriend explained the situation to the nurses / midwives and they gave me my own room to recover and allowed my mum / partner to stay with me until we left hospital. They were also happy to answer any questions we had and of course supported me with caring for my newborn son. Overall a really good experience with the staff x
Haven't give birth yet but been told any day now. I have been admitted to the ward a few times and everytime I go in everyone is lovely. Remember to ask for a form so your birthing partner can stay with you over night after baby is born. It is just a list of rules that they need to agree to but must ask for it as they don't all offer it out. Again if parking you can ask for a parking pass. All you need to do is pay for the first hour. I had my first there nearly 12 years ago and it was great then so I have no worries about going back for this one.
I've heard the MLU at st Michael's has been closed due to lack of midwives, just a heads up if you didn't realise/wanted to check x
Thanks have spoken to St michaels and when they don’t have enough midwives they do close the mlu and you have baby in delivery suite but there is access to a pool and cases where able to use the pools upstairs if helpful for anyone reading this 👍
I’ve always had my scans and appointments there and they have always been so lovely! Haven’t given birth yet so can’t say about that xxx
