Sleeping alone

How/when do/did you get baby to sleep in his/her own space? He’s almost 3 months. He’s breastfed right now and not sleeping though the night yet so I may keep him with me for a little while longer

I breastfeed too, and I just put her in the crib on her own one night (she was probably 4 1/2 months), to my surprise she slept most of the night, only waking at 5/6 then I’d just bring her into the room with me. From what I’ve seen they just tend to sleep better in a separate room.

Hm okay I’m going to try that! It might be a little difficult for me bc I only have a one bedroom apartment

Oh, she’s in my room right now because we moved. But she still sleeps in her pack and play. She probably wakes up 2/3 times

I had my child sleep on her own after 6 months of breastfeeding, then I weened her and she slept alone since 8 months old with a bottle of formula at night for another 4 months then to water when she was a year old. So she has slept on her own in her own room since 8 months old and she is 2 years old now

Hm okay, so would you say it’s easier when they aren’t breastfed anymore?

Yes by far

We waited until 9 months, and she started sleeping so much better! With our next baby, we will start much earlier. My sis in law starts at 9 weeks, and now I get it! Good luck!

We’ll see! If moving him to his own bed doesn’t work now, at least I know I’ll still have time!

My daughter went to her crib when she was about 4 1/2 months old. She would get up once a night still.

My 1 year old slept with us until she was 1 only because of our living situation now my 7 month old slept with us until she was 5 months old. Both girls are in a room together which helps somewhat with sleeping

Ella started to sleep in her bed at 4 months it was not easy because she slept in a rock in play right by me because I was scared for her to sleep by herself for no reason I guess I wanted to feel her close still but now she gets a bath at 7 30 no later then 8 and gets a bottle and hose to bed by 9 and sleeps till 8 on the morning and for 2 months now even I get normal amount of sleep

My first son didn’t have his own room when he was little, but you can possibly create his own “space”. Maybe get a room divider. I had a wire attached across the living room and then curtain drew across. I also had a headphones with a very long cord to watch tv on my side of curtain.

Wow some good advice here! One night I just put my kids in their own crib and were on their own since. Never had to do anything. I do got another on the way though so hopefully they'll be just as easy as the last two. :)

Yeah hopefully! Yesterday the babysitter said he naps pretty well in the bassinet so that’s good! Sometimes he naps on his own at home but it just depends how tired he is sometimes

6 weeks

Almost 3 months and slept in her play yard or bassinet since the day she came home my oldest refuses to get out of our bed so trying to avoid it with the youngest

My babe just turned 5 months. Patience is really the key. consistency and a routine worked for us. I started the routine by reading a book, turning the lights down, and rocking her until she fell asleep. Then I just place her in her crib with the mobile playing lullabies. It’s been amazing, the other night she slept from 10-8 without waking up!!! I almost cried lol. You have to find what works for both of you and stick with it. She is breastfed as well and will wake up once to eat if at all. She also has her own room though I think it’s more challenging if you share rooms because any little noise can be disturbing. It can be done though stay positive 😄

I breastfed both my 5 year old and one year but i stop breastfeeding 5 year at 2 1/2 years old and switch him to a twin size bed at age 3

My son is 16months and still in our bed, he still wakes 3x (sometimes more, sometimes less) a night. He’s teething right now and I seem to be the only comfort... it’s frustrating, but I know I’ll miss it when he moves into his own space. He is baby number 3 for us.

Try it! We did it at 3 months and he started sleeping longer! It was from every 3-4 hours with me. Then when he was in his crib in his own room it was 6 to 8 to 10! I think he really prefers having his space. It’s definitely more comfortable and less noises disturbing him. Like my hubbys snores lol. What I did is during the day for his naps I put him down in his crib for awhile that way he didn’t have so much of a shock but I did this from birth so idk how log you should do it. And just keep with it and see how it goes! I think yours will hopefully like it better! Just make sure he is comfortable. If he has something that will help him soothe. Like something he associates with comfort put it in there. Or near him. Since you’re breastfeeding put one of your worn shirts in there or close so he feels like you’re still close.

That's a good call to nap in the crib. My 2 month old sleeps in her bassinet but hasn't done much time in the crib. I don't plan on moving her out of my room anytime soon but I should start having her naps in her crib now I think. Thanks!

Of course! Yeah I feel like it really helps!

My daughter is 2 months and we have an "arms reach co sleeper" essentially a bassinet that has a side fold down so it's level with my bed. So she doesn't technically sleep in our bed but she's right there so I just lift her on to my bed to feed her then put her back when she's done. I don't plan on moving her to her crib in her room til at least 6 months, maybe later.i know some may say that's late and it'll be a hard transition. We both sleep better being able to hear her and having her so close. I think if I were to become pregnant I'd move her to her room sooner so she got used to it before a new sibling came home

I’m doing the same and my daughter is 2 months as well and since I breastfeed she actually Cosleeps with us and we feel more comfortable with having her around and yes at about six months or so we’re thinking about transitioning her to her crib maybe still in our room not sure yet tho

I moved my little one from his bassinet beside my bed into his crib when he was able to roll over! He was a big baby so he ran out of space fast and began to roll over around 3 months! I am a very paranoid first time momma so I got the baby monitor that has a camera so I could watch his every move all night❤️

To be honest as long as you breastfeed your probably going to be stuck with your baby throughout the nights. Breastfed babies are different and very demanding.

I wouldn’t say that’s true for every baby, my daughter is also breastfed and she started sleeping through the night at 5 months old. Maybe I’m just lucky

My daughter is 3 and still sneaks into my bed at night and steals a sip without me knowing....I’m too sleep deprived to notice 🤣. On the plus side she told me 2 days ago that my “cheche not working”. So here’s to her fully weaning soon. 🤞🏽

My little one started sleeping in his crib at three months & honestly slept so much better in his own room. To preface this, we live in an old farmhouse and our room is DIRECTLY next to his. He will still occasionally wake up mid-night to eat but then goes right back down. It was harder for me to make the transition than it was for him. Lol, but I’d say whenever & whatever makes you feel most comfortable. Like I said, our rooms are sooooo close which isn’t always the case for everyone. Made the transition much easier I think

My son (now 6) slept in the bassinet for 3-4 weeks, then off to his crib for naps and we eventually transitioned to all night shortly thereafter. I realized our bedroom was not conducive to him getting good sleep. He loved being in his room from that point on. There were many nights of sleep training involved, but I credit a strict schedule for bedtime (including our routines) that helped him and us.

My youngest is 9 months and still in with me. His cot has the side off and is like an extension to my bed. He still wakes up so much in the night that I just can’t get up and out of bed all those times. I would sleep even less than I do now which isn’t much at all.

My daughter slept in her own space since the beginning. I didn’t want her in the same bed, safe sleeping is really important to me and co-sleeping has been linked to SIDS so it wasn’t an option. We use a Chicco Next2Me crib, works perfectly while breastfeeding.

Actually cosleeping (baby in the bassinet near the bed) reduces SIDS. It’s recommended that your baby sleep in your room for the first year. For a very small baby under four months they’re not really able to move enough so suffocation is a risk with bed sharing. “American Academy of Pediatrics recently issued new infant sleep guidelines — highlighting a recommendation that babies sleep in their parents' rooms for at least six months but ideally a full year”

My 19month old still sleeps with me.

My 4 year old still sleeps with me. He’s a definite mamas boy. My oldest slept in my bed on and off until she was almost 2 and then fully transferred to her own room.

Is he in his own bassinet or your bed? My lo stayed next to me in the bassinet until 6 months. But I started putting her down for naps in her crib around 2-3 months so she could get used to being in there. Keep him next to you! No rush he’s still little

My son slept in his crib since he was 2 weeks it was right next to my bed I was scared to squish him in the middle of the night

My two year old daughter still breastfeeds at night and we sleep together - all three of us! Beer thing ever. Also, please realize that any notions about this are 100% cultural. You do what you think in your heart is right!

My 2.5 month old she will be 3 months on november 2 and shes been sleeping thru the night since she turned 2 months old. She is on a routine, we walk the dog I and her sister eat than I breast feed and than bathe her and than breast feed again and shes down from 8 to 8 am the next morning and eats for a solid 30 minutes when waking up - takes maybe 1 nap or 3 small naps ..

We moved my daughter out at 3.5 months and sleep trained around a month later. We did it because she was waking every hour or more and it was unsustainable, we were desperate. I didn’t want to move her out and sleep train all at once, felt cruel, so we staggered it. I’ll be moving my son out much sooner in hopes that he will sleep better than my daughter did and hopefully I won’t need to sleep train him because it was emotionally painful for all of us. Do what’s best for you and your family, don’t worry too much about what’s normal for others.

My kids both went to their own rooms at 4 months. Its recommended to have your baby 'room in' until 6 months though. :)

I placed a sofa bed in her bedroom. I placed her in her crib from day one, but she was also in the NICU for 3 weeks. I breastfeed also except in the evening to early morning 6am I bottlefeed with breast milk so we can both go back to our individual beds fast. Hopefully once she starts sleeping through the night I can go back to my bedroom.
