Dermal piercing and pregnant.

I have a dermal piercing and have been told I have to remove it. Probably is I don't know how! I did go to the original place that i had the piercing done but they sais they cant remove it. Im going to try go to a different piercing shop to ask them to remove it. Just wanted to see if anyone has any advice on how to remove this if no one can do it.

I'm having it removed due to having a c section

It has to be removed by a professional as a scalpel is needed xx

No piercing shop will remove it you’re going to have to get it removed at a doctors/hospital because you’re pregnant

I have a email written by my midwife and doctor saying that it needs to be removed by a professional piercer and they told me to try use that email and see if someone will remove it.... if not do you think maybe I should ring the doctors?

Avatar

personally I would ring the doctors a piercing shop needs to have special insurance for something like that so they won’t touch a pregnant woman x

Hmm.. interesting you’re being told you have to remove it. I have two in my hips and they havnt grown out like I thought they would in pregnancy. I had a fetal MRI and was able to keep them in. I can imagine if I did end up with an emergency c section (hopefully not), they wouldn’t remove them in theatre there and then.
More risky to have them taken out by a piercer in pregnancy due to infection risk

Oh dear.... 😪 this is the email my midwife wrote me

Definitely is weird they are asking you to take it out I’ve got a normal piercing in my belly button and I’ve never had to take it out with either of my pregnancies even had it in while in Labour x

@Chloe I thought the doctor would do it while I had the c section but no...😪 xxx

I've been told my VCH needs removing however in last week or so it's sunk into itself so ball on top of bar is inside me. I'm seeing a piercer Saturday but my midwifes said it might have to be removed once spinal blocks done on c section. Could that be an option if u can't get it removed?
Apparently its in case they need to shock us to save r life in worse case scenario x

Do not remove it at home. You’ll have to go to a piercers or hospital.

I have now got an appointment with a piercer to remove it but I am going to call the doctors to see if they can do it as I'd prefer that. :) xxx

The problem is we don’t know how to remove dermal piercings in theatre
And we wouldn’t want to cause you harm

We use special equipment that stops the bleeding during your surgery but it can cause severe burns if you have metal in your body

@Harriet I went to my appointment today to remove the piercing and it didn't go well. They couldn't remove it and now ots very sore and swollen... I'm unsure what to do now... xxx

Avatar

they shouldn’t struggle if they are professionally trained they should have numbed you with lidocaine then used a scalpel to make a small incision to take it out xx

Avatar

where is your dermal piercing?
If it’s in a certain area they may just be able to tape it and avoid causing a burn xx

Avatar

@Chloe I did think that tbh... I wasn't numbed at all and they used a needle to make cuts around it to try remove it. After an hour I told them to not bother xxx

@Harriet it's on my stomach... nesr my hip xxx

Hospital bag (UK)

What did everyone pack for their section? I'm staying in for 3 days due to mental health, not really sure what I'll need to bring, feeling very nervous. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Pregnancy after c section

What time scale did everyone get pregnant again after a c section?
I know the doc said they recommend eating at least a year to 18 months but it took 4 years to get pregnant the first time after being told we could not conceive naturally so not wanting to stop it happening knowing it could take a very long time again but also worried.

Labour

Think im a bit confused really, i went into traige as was having contractions eveey 3-5mins. Since being here im now having them every 2-3mins which was confirmed with the machine and i think the toco was 90-100 and they feel painful and my lower back is in loads of pain but apparently im only just over 2cm dilated maybe, she has said i can stay here for a bit longer to see if things progress as had a previous quick birth as well but i dont understand why the pains are coming this quick if im only 2cm dilated and feel a bit deflated from it also.

I had a sweep this morning also.

C section trauma ?

Is it a thing to be traumatised by a c section delivery? I’m 4 weeks pp after having an emergency c section. I won’t go into the ins and outs to what got me there 😂
Nothing went wrong in the surgery at all, it was just incredibly intense, overwhelming and scary, but luckily my baby was delivered safe!
However I’m finding my birth experience quite difficult to even think about and when I do, I feel a horrid gut wrenching feeling, my heart aches and I just uncontrollably cry! My body feels really alien to me, like it’s not my own and I just feel really let down.
