Cornmeal porridge 🇯🇲

Any caribbean/Jamaican mummas served their babies cornmeal porridge yet, and if so, from what age? I’m not in a rush to but just curious ☺️

I’m not Caribbean but was raised by a Caribbean family! Started giving mine cornmeal porridge now at 7 months but no sugar

Nigerian here but his daddy Jamaican, we started vining him corn meal porridge as soon as he showed interest in feeding which was as early as 5 months. Made it with his formula NO SUGAR or all the usual stuff a grown person would put in it like nutmeg , vanilla or lasco

@Arzuh ah lovely, she’s 8 months but wasn’t sure if she could have it, I’m sure she’d love it x

@Victoria how was he with it, does he enjoy it? And yeah def no sugar, I’m sure she’d love it regardless x

@Shana if she’s anything like my daughter she will!! I think the texture for them is easy and fuss free. I make ir for her with the tiniest bit of vanilla and nutmeg because they’re both safe for babies from 6months+ :)) hope u two have fun trying it out for the first time! X

My son has been having cornmeal since he was 6 months and was quoted “the strongest 18 month old he’d ever met” by a doctor the other day and my dad swears it’s the cornmeal lol. But like others mentioned fine cornmeal, formula/breast milk and no added sweeteners. Did put cinnamon for him but I’m sure your baby will enjoy without. It’s actually quite nutritional too x

I haven’t yet but I need to, where I live there isn’t much Caribbean food, he’s 8 months now but I had his first food be yam and plantain

@Arzuh thank you chick and side note, your bubba is adorable 🥺 x

@Nia honestly porridge is so so good for them, no wonder your son is thriving. I feel a lot better about wanting to offer it to her now, I’ve been telling my stepdad to hold off for ages! x

@Rebekah ugh that’s so annoying and so ooh how was he with the plantain? My partners Nigerian and he’s been dying to get her to try it x

I can’t wait until my son Is old enough for cornmeal and cream of wheat! He is only a month rn so a while to go still!

She can have it without the sugar and make it with formula or breast milk

@Shana he loved it, I’m going to London next week so I can buy all the Caribbean food and bring it back. What’s the best way to cook the porridge?

@Rebekah couldn’t tell you as I’ve never personally made it, I’m not a fan of porridge to be honest 😂
