Circumcision debate

So my in laws wanted baby to be circumcised the traditional Turkish way which can be later on baby’s life example 3-5 years old. I’m having second thoughts about it and want it to be done sooner than later. Anyone had similar a challenge? Is recover time longer if baby is older ? Mind you we would have to go to Turkey to get it done. I think I’m just stressed out about recovery and having to deal with it without help. This is my first baby and I don’t really know what Muslims due in general with circumcision to you just have a normal doctor to do it or is it a religion person ?

My best friend had all her 3 boys circumcised when they were babies. She went to a doctor in London & the recovery was very fast and problem free. It’s best to get it done earlier, later on there can be other complications x

I think most just have a normal doctor do it. Is there any specific reason it has to be done in Turkey. I found it really traumatic to watch as a first time boy mum. Would recommend get it done ASAP so baby can sleep through most of the day and keep up on calpol doses. If he is 3-5 walking and running I can only imagine extreme discomfort x

I would get it done straight away , u got my babies done at 2 months the dr go u did it abit late which was cruel he said i go how he goes the feel it more 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️where as younger babies dont . Duno how that works but i wish i did get it done earlier and they did it the nornal way not the ring way they literally cut it off x

The younger the better , as babies don’t feel anything and recovery is quicker . In most Arabic and Islamic countries e.g. Pakistan they get it done at the hospital before baby and mum leave after birth . I believe it’s sunnah to do it in day 7. Otherwise it’s better to do it before 18 months as it’ll be easier to recover and won’t be connected to trauma. The only reason I delayed my sons one who is now a month old as I had complications with c section so it took me long to recover so I had to cancel the appointment. But getting it done this month inshallah. There are circumcision centres ( in London) or check the city you’re in , the one in Leicesterwhere I am is connected to the nhs not sure about the others, so I booked it at the centre then I got a confirmation from the nhs like any other medical appointment.

We got our son done at 5 days, because at that age they don't move or wiggle much so the healing time was a quick 7 days. And it was done by a doctor in North London. I cant imagine how recovery is once they're running around. It'll just make it difficult for you, esp in a different country

We had a normal doctor do it. A baby won’t remember that pain

Circumcision itself is not mentioned in the Quran and Hadith (teachings) are not specific of “ when “. Maybe it’s a cultural preference to wait that long but from what I know right after the babies birth is the sunnah

My son had his at 3months and he recovered in 5 days. Best to get it done when they are babies they don't feel the pain and recovery is quicker. Doing it when they are 3-5yrs will be hard and longer recovery. Plus the whole experience can leave them traumatized.

Also to mention we went to East London mosque, Maryam centre to get it done they have NHS drs who carry out the procedure. You can ask your local masjid see if they do it or a clinic where they do circumscion

Please don't wait until the child is 3-5 years old. It will be very uncomfortable for him since the healing process is a lot longer. You should get it done as soon as he is born, it will make it a lot easier for both the little bubba and you. The clinic where we will go says not to wait longer than 2 months. Honestly you can go anytime, so in that sense you don't have to stress about it. Remember that plenty of adult men get circumcised. However, the healing process is really hard the older you get.

I mean the younger they are the higher chance of the skin growing back, but they don’t have a localized sense of pain until after 6 months so it’s best to do it by then if you are going to do it. Babies are usually rolling by that age and some start scooting or crawling so it’s best to do it before all the movement starts. I personally chose not to circumcise my son at all. It just didn’t seem right to me and I see no actual benefit to doing it.

@Kat I'm going to assume you aren't Muslim right sis? (It's part of our faith) I'd say as early as possible, agree with Kat, before all the movement starts- so hopefully little man doesn't accidentally nudge himself or something. We did it within a couple of months (my babies were 6 weeks premature so I wanted them to grow a little first) and it was great - healing took about 4-5 days tops

@Seeker yes I’m sorry, it popped up on my feed and I didn’t even check the group first. My sincere apologies if it came off rude or insensitive.

Not at all @Kat that's totally fine! We're not aliens, just Muslims 😹💕 sending you love and hugs 🤗
