Circumcision

I am Muslim and will be having a little boy in October. Does anyone know if the NHS performs circumcision for religious reasons or if I would have to go private? Also what age is recommended? Please no judgement. Xx

I’m pretty sure NHS only do it if it’s medically necessary. You will have to go private. No idea on the age

Unfortunately NHs will only do if is medically necessary or emergency. I'm due in Jan and I'm not sure yet what we are having but I know for fact that if it will be a boy we'll have to find private surgery for that

There’s a doctor in Glasgow who performs circumcision procedures privately. He was excellent with our son who was 6 weeks old at the time. Healed up within ten days - definitely look him up - Circumcision Clinic Glasgow Dr Anwar Khan

NHS Scotland performed my sons circumcision for religious and cultural reasons! We had it done a couple of months ago , it's usually done after 6 months of age, we were on a waiting list for a long time but it was done eventually, this was in NHS Grampian! Not sure about other areas

Thanks all, will do some more research and ask around... I am based in Highlands so no sure what they do here. 😊 x

I think you need to go private as NHS will only do it if medically necessary. I would encourage you to wait as long as you can if religion allows as it’s not a very nice procedure for a baby to have unless they really have to(no judgement here!) xx

I was gonna say same as Anan. We did it for cultural reasons and they will only do it when the child is 6 months plus. And this was Aberdeen. You can be put on a waiting list if he’s not 6 month yet. Worth a go.

The children’s hospital have released a leaflet on Twitter stating they do it for religious and medical reasons may be worth speaking to medical professionals

@Kirsten Is this the Plastibell procedure you’re talking about? Xx

@Teri yeah it is
