Newborn clothes for Seattle winter?

Hello, first time mom and I'm due 12/26. I'm wondering what clothes / outerwear I should have prepared. Since it doesn't get super cold, is a puffer jacket overkill? What about mittens, booties, a winter hat?

For a newborn, I wouldn’t bother with separate booties/ puffer, etc. I would get a one piece snowsuit/bunting that’s weatherproof and has the built-in footies, hand covers and hood. This worked like a charm for my daughter her first Seattle winter! I got one from Old Navy that worked great and well priced, too.

Related: is it generally safest to go with size 0-3 for newborns? I've heard babies grow out of newborn size fast and many will fit into size 0-3 from day 1. I'm thinking for something like a snowsuit it'd be ok if it's initially a little big? But maybe I'm wrong and that's actually totally unsafe 😳

I have an infant outfit that is basically a hooded sleeping bag with arm holes, and I also have a bassinet stroller that zips up to keep the cold out. You can also wear your baby and your body heat will help keep them warm. I wouldn’t bother with a newborn size, you’ll probably be indoors most of the time, maybe just go with a 1-3 months old puffy outfit. Your baby probably wont even be sitting up on their own before it is warm out, so you don’t need anything too complicated.

Booties, mittens and winter hat are a yes for Seattle. Even though you’ll be mostly inside, you need this transferring to and from the car, and till the car warms up. We used bunting because I loved taking them out in the snowfall, but you really don’t need to go crazy on the winter clothes. I was a fan of footie fleece pajamas but only if they have a light sleeper…and my house was SUPER cold.

I was wondering the same thing. I read that babies can’t regulate their temp so you have to make sure they stay warm. Was trying to figure out the best way for this.
