Baby got into cat food

How serious should I be if my baby gets into dry cat food? She had maybe 3 or 4 pieces in her mouth and we’re not sure if she had swallowed any. Just want some opinions on it because the internet isn’t helping at all and it’s making me worried 😖

Call the pediatrician in the am unless she starts acting different. I'm sure she is good but I would be worried too

You can always call poison control and list the ingredients. They will tell you if it’s safe. And if your babe doesn’t get sick to their stomach/puking/diarrhea then I would think they’d be ok to wait til morning to call pediatrician

If it helps you not worry toooo much my baby ate (well - put in her mouth and then we took it out) a piece of her own poop that fell out of her diaper when her dad changed her … I was mortified but she seems fine!

@Katie oh wow! I’m glad she’s okay! But to your first comment, we took a few pieces out of her mouth so I would say she probably ate 1 or 2 pieces if she did swallow some. Just gotta wait and see how she does tonight I suppose.

Mine likes to eat cat food 🤷🏼‍♀️ We eventually ordered a baby gate for the cat area and he can’t get it anymore. He was totally fine!

I’d be more worried about the choking hazard. I don’t think cat food is poisonous.

@Eileen yea I completely get the choking. Our main concern is the stuff that can be found in animal food - ecoli, salmonella, etc - all that can be pretty bad for a baby since their immune systems are too weak to fight it off. I know it’s not a for sure thing that she’ll get any of that but you just never know 😪

@Daria that’s good to know that he’s fine! It definitely makes me feel a lot better 😊 and I did end up moving our cats food somewhere else and I’ve got a chair in the way to where she won’t be able to get to it for now 😅

My sister went through a phase of actually eating cat food as a kid she’s 30 now and fine luckily but it happens Aslong as they arnt choking or showing signs of been poorly it’ll just pass through, offer plenty of fluids to wash it down though xx

Just to give you some peace of mind. Cat food legally has to be edible for human consumption for this exact reason! I would call your LOs paediatrician if you're worried.

Mine did this with our dog food the other day. I spoke to my pediatrician and she wasn’t concerned. I wouldn’t stress too much. My grandpa used to give us milkbone dog biscuits to teeth on when we were kids and we are in our 30s and 40s now, all healthy.
