Breakthrough hot flashes?

I had really bad hot flashes and went on HRT about 2.5 months ago. It made a HUGE difference—I can travel again or go in public without an ice pack, fan and handkerchief! But over the last few days I’ve gotten warmer and sweatier than I have in a while. Was wondering if anyone had “breakthrough hot flashes” with HRT and if so, did you have to up your dosage?

Hello 😊 It's common to experience a recurrence of symptoms as HRT settles down. You should have a review after three months in any case, and best practice is to slightly increase your dose, give that three months to settle and see where you're at with things. There is no need with modern transdermal Body-identical HRT to stay on an arbitrary low dose, or for any set length of time for most people. The North American Menopause Society and British Menopause Society guidance on prescribing HRT (and others globally) both state this. Our M-brace The Change factsheet on starting HRT might be handy: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gVCl3LhNcF6zDrEht8-x9GuHX4agfSFz/view?usp=sharing 😊❤️

Hot flashes during menopause are because your body isn't able to regulate your body temperature as effectively anymore. I had breakthrough hot flashes when the temperature and humidity soared. I also get them when I'm working out or get overheated for any reason (a hot bath). I'm not willing to up my hrt dosage because my dr said the current guidelines are the smallest dose for the shortest amount of time due to possible side effects and risks of using the meds, but you can definitely talk to your doctor to see what he/she thinks. Maybe yours are weather related?
