Having baby early

I am being induced at 38 weeks, earlier if my heart and aorta don't stay stable. I have read 38 weeks, isn't good still, as baby can struggle to regulate temperature (more than your 'average baby') and developmental delays? Has anyone had there's around 37-38 weeks and no need to nicu stay and health problems?

Had my baby at 38 weeks plus 4 days by emergency section. Was induced due to him stopping growing in the womb. He was born 5lb 10 and no nicu stay. Born on the Sunday evening and home the Tuesday morning, could have went home the Monday evening but I choose to stay in hospital as didn't want to be travelling home and trying to settle at night. Baby has met all their milestones and is happy and healthy x

Was induced at 38 and born at 38+2 as my blood pressure was dodgy. Weighed 7lb7 and other than a little jaundice that didn't need treatment he was absolutely fine. Didn't notice any issues with temp and he was a Feb baby and it snowed when he was less than a week old.

Baby girl born at 38+4, she’s currently 4 and half months old. No developmental delays, no major health issues being born in the 38th week. She did have jaundice but didn’t need a hospital admission, but that can happen in full term bubs. She was born at 7lb11oz. People go into spontaneous labour at 38w and babies are healthy. I would advise not to google these things as it will only make you anxious without a huge amount of scientific studies, and many of those studies will be conducted in small numbers, I wouldn’t trust websites that aren’t reputable, if you need, NHS, or Google scholar to find scientific studies. If it’s development you are worried about, all leaps/development milestones go off babies due date, not their actual date of birth, so if your little one was born at 38w, their leaps would be 2w later than a baby born on the same day who was 40w gestation, which is normal. babies develop at their own rate within certain time frames (which are quite flexible). Big hugs! X

I was induced at 37 weeks, baby boy was fine, no health problems and he was already 7lb 2oz when he was born

I had my little girl at 38 weeks on the day. Ended up with emergency C section but She didn’t need to be in NICU was perfectly fine and was home 2 days later, had to stay in due to my own issues with having asthma!

Iv had 4 babies from 36+4 to 38+1 all were absolutely fine an spontaneous labour they only one who had a stay in hospital was the youngest as my waters broke 4 days before she was born but she wasn’t in special care

My baby was induced and born at 37+2 due to me having preeclampsia and I was told at that point she was actually better off developmentally outside of the womb. She is almost six months and has so far passed every milestone about a month early and she has no issues at all that relate to being born that soon other than jaundice which is very common but after a few days in hospital she was absolutely fine and it went away in a few weeks of being at home

At 37 weeks they are classed as full term. I wad induced at 38 weeks as little one stopped growing, within a day of being born she put her birth weight back on, shes now 4 yrs old with no problems at all

I was induced at 37 weeks & baby girl was measuring small. She had jaundice (which is normal for babies after birth) & was treated in hospital while i was staying. Was sent home as normal after couple of days & now shes a healthy 5 month old x

Try to remember every baby is different. You could go full term, and baby need a nicu/ special care stay for whatever reason. My bubba was born at 37+2 after we were induced, which resulted in an emergency c section. He did have 2 days in special care for a few health issues (surpsingly not his weight). But you honestly would not have any idea now. We've just had his 27-month check, and he has smashed it. Unless I said he was born a little early and weighed only 5lb2oz. You honestly would never no. Good luck, lovely x

Definitely not a concern unless baby is very small. Xx

I had my baby via emergency c-section at 37+3 due to pre-eclampsia and he was perfect. No NICU. I was also so worried but he’s totally fine and weighed more than some of my friends babies who went full term! 7lb 1oz x

My friend has her baby at 37wks she was 5lb no nicu and left hospital 3 days after c-section so at 38wks your LO should be okay.

My boy was born spontaneously 36+5 and needed no NICU stay. We were in hospital for a week because he had jaundice though xx

37 weeks is full term on NHS website and midwives say you can express colostrum and start drinking raspberry leaf tea from 37 weeks, as those things can induce labour xx

Had baby at 38+5, ended up having an emergency c-section but we are both well, no complications, ended up going home 27 hours after birth!

@Becca thank you, I have just done the dreaded Google and worried myself. I have plenty on time to cook this little one yet. Glad your little bot is healthy

My baby was born at 38+2 weighing 6lbs 1 from an induction. A little jaundice but no treatment needed. No nicu stay. Out of hospital in 1 day. He’s nearly 4 months and is a happy, healthy & smiley baby 💗

I wouldn't be concerned at all. 37 weeks is technically full term, so a baby born anytime after this would be highly unlikely to need any additional care. X
