Feeling like the worst mum ever

Tonight, I was holding my son when all of a sudden my cat slipped from the radiator and was hanging upside down screaming. My instincts kicked in, and I went to put my son down to grab the cat. Except it happened so quickly I don't know if I placed him and he fell to the side (he's only 11 weeks so he can't sit unsupported) or if I dropped him from a short height. He cried, and my husband managed to calm him down, and now he's sleeping. He seems unharmed, but I'm absolutely distraught. I know it was an accident, but I can't help but feel like the absolute worst mum that ever existed. How could I be so careless. I should have made sure he was placed safely before helping my cat, but it was an automatic reaction. My instincts chose my cat over my son 😭😭 I don't think I'll forgive myself 😞

Try not to feel too bad, things like this happen to most of us at some point. He will have already forgotten about it! A couple of months ago I did up my babies sleep sack popper and caught his skin. He cried, I cried, it was such a mess. He had a little bruise, his first ever bruise, and it was my fault. I was distraught too but after mentioning it to others they told me very similar stories. Don't worry, you're doing amazing.

I’m so sorry this has happened to you. I remember one of my mum friends saying that dropping your baby/ them falling happens to almost every parent - so take it as you’ve been officially initiated 🥰 don’t beat yourself up, I’m sure you’re an amazing mum. It’s hard as it is and you’re doing great. If in doubt don’t hesitate to seek medical help, but I’m sure if you do they’ll also reassure you that as awful as it feels, it is common. It was probably just your tired brain reacting quickly. Sending love your way and hope you feel less bad tomorrow.
