My little one is great with colours but often mistakes pink for purple which is minor she counts confidently to 10 x
@Vicky hiya I know this is an oldish post but I was wondering where you find the handbook you're talking about? Keen to have a look at it so I can have an idea on what I should be helping my son with atm
Mine counts to ten but misses out 7 and 9! He knows all his colours and says “dark” and “light” for blue/green etc.
We have started on numbers and ABCS .. he doesn't want to count 12345 but he will count backwards 45321 😂😂 He is really into his colours at the moment .. anywhere we go he will point to a colour , struggles with white but has everything else pretty good.
I don’t think there is a norm. I’m sure this would be a different story at 3 years of age but I think all children develop skills in their own time and whilst some may be able to count into the hundreds and beyond (certainly not my 2 year old) others may only be able to count to two but be able to recite a song or do a jigsaw that others can’t yet do. There are a small number of geniuses I’m sure but as long as you can see general development I find everyone’s skill set levels off equally by 3.
Knows her colours but pretends she doesn't. Counts to 13 and counts back from 6. Doesn't recognise numbers as think its too early. Knows shapes though
Can count to around 14, knows no colours - says everything’s blue!
My little boy just turned 2 he is very good at colours but not so much numbers he can put all numbers in place in a jigsaw but will just say 1 2 5 9
My boy knows all his colours and can count to 30 has done for the past year and recognises numbers but I think that's from us doing lots of counting and reading books etc x
Can count to 15 but misses number 13. Knows all his colours
My little boy knows up to 20 and most colours
If you are ever curious, download the ‘early years foundation stage’ handbook. It breaks down all of the target kiddies should be working toward in over lapping age brackets. If I remember right, colours aren’t particularly a developmental stage it’s more associating colours with a meaning ‘the sky is blue’ type thing. Numbers, I’m sure it’s between 30-50 months they should start to recognise them and associate meaning. My little girl has just turned 2 and has been recognising colours for a while, can count to 17 and just started recognising numbers of significant ie “I’m 2, that’s 2” type of thing xx
We can do maybe 1-5 😂 but she’s pretty good at describing lot of colours
My LG can say numbers and some in order but she’ll say random ones after like 5. Colours she’s good at although everything would be pink if she had her way 😂 not worried one bit! She’s 2!!

We can count to 13 and backwards from 5. He knows the names for colours but can't identify them. There's a lot of colour blindness in his dad's side of the family so at the moment we're trying to figure out if that's a factor
Knows all the colours. Can count to 10 but I've randomly heard him count to 14. Can also count to 10 in gujarati. He knows other random numbers from book pages.
Can do most colours, can count 1-12 but isn’t overly interested in it. Also knows random numbers like 25 but no context for it 😅
Ditto the above. 20, backwards from 5, and can do colours.
My daughter knows most colours. Counts to 20 but not so confidently past 13. Can count back from 5 as well. She seems to have a special interest in numbers and songs with numbers in.
Can count to 20 but sometimes misses out 13 amd 18 she knows orange, red and purple colours at the moment 💜
@Zoe https://dera.ioe.ac.uk/id/eprint/14042/7/development%20matters%20in%20the%20early%20years%20foundation%20stage_Redacted.pdf Take a look at that sweet. It’s what all/most nurseries and foundation stages use for development. Either that or birth-5 xxx
