My c section was unexpected. I only took ibuprofen and tylenol after. I walked as much as I could handle, slowly increasing the duration. I think it helped with the healing, by keeping the blood moving. I also had a ton of swelling in my legs and feet. When I was sitting I kept my feet elevated.
Thanks ladies. I’ve had a moment of emotion during this early morning because of the pain and then seeing the swelling. Mine wasn’t planned so I hadn’t really factored this into postpartum recovery 🙈🙈 it’s not easy xx 🥲
I had all of that! Edema in my legs and feet, hurting when I peed, sneezing sucked really bad too. The hard parts for me were having gas bubbles in my abdomen that wouldn’t go away. When I went to my 6 week follow up appointment, I had tissue buildup where they started the inside stitch. I remember a burning sensation around my incision, red splotchy rash, and a really yucky smell from the moisture buildup between my pouch and my body. I did NOT have an infection though! Also lots of itchiness.
Midwife told me that the hurting when you pee is because the bladder is right by the wound. She said try go to the toilet more often to avoid the bladder getting too full and I found this did help. The only problem was more getting up to go to the toilet. You are not alone, I had my C section 9 days ago and the recovery has been brutal. I just keep telling myself that the only way out is through and the pain will eventually dull.
Agree with above comment - you can lose sensation of when you need to pee which means your bladder can fill a lot without you realizing g, try to go regularly to empty it & it should hurt less. I was on alternating panadol and voltaren for a good week or so after mine! My feet also got quite puffy so try to elevate when comfortable. They say it’s actually good for recovery to move rather than do nothing, so try to keep moving gently and carefully, it’ll all help at strengthening your muscles. I had mine 4 weeks ago & by week 2 I felt much better, it does get easier xx
Thanks ladies. I’m really struggling with the recovery more so than having a life changing experience of a baby. It’s nice to know I’m not in this boat alone, it’s very lonely and partner helps out as much as he can but breast feeding and recovering from a brutal section is a task in itself 😭. Good point about the bladder being full, thinking about it the pain is worse when I haven’t been for a while so I might try and go little and often xx
You’re doing a great job Rachel 🥰 it’s no easy feat to be recovering and caring for a new baby, you got this 👏🏼
Keep up to date on your painkillers, I woke up with alarms to take mine every 4 hours. Many people told me to use a pillow/cushion to hold your tummy when going to the toilet. My feet took weeks to go down, it's a marathon not a sprint xxx
Also when sleeping, I found it comfy to keep a small cushion between my knees. And if I needed to roll over, keep both your knees together and move them first, followed by the rest of your body. I was advised to do that by my physio and it helped me be more comfortable
Congratulations x Do minimal but you do need to get up and go for small walks around the house bruising is completely normal also x make sure your not sitting up right from laying that you lay to the side first and even ask for help maybe even when you are resting out a pillow under your feet if they are swollen x keep on top of your pain meds also I’m not one to even take med but after my c section I made sure to take it religiously Xx
I heard from friend of mine who had emergency C-section is good try walk a bit even if in house and do scar massages 🙂
Thank you everyone 🩷🩷 I think I’m just having a few emotional days. I have been moving about walking around 🥰. It’s mainly morning and night that are the worse. We are strong women and can do this 💪🏼💪🏼 our bodies not only have grown a baby for 9 months and go through so much change, they deliver a baby and also have major surgery to assist this. Definitely be kind to ourselves. I am my own worse enemy sometimes I know that xx
Normal! You had major surgery just five days ago. A full recovery is not expected for 6-8 weeks. Rest & take it easy. Not only are you trying to recover from surgery but also take care of a newborn and navigate parenthood. You’re doing great 💗
@Becca thank you. Needed to hear that this morning 🩷🩷
I was the exact same mine was a planned c-sec but it was painful at times when I’ve gone a wee . Just rest as much as you can xx
