Hi Olivia. I’m struggling with the same. My let down is forceful and also painful. I use a haakaa pump on the feeding breast for a minute before starting to feed. Have also just bought a breast shell for leaks from opposite breast. Then store the extra milk from both for my freezer stash (so dad can eventually give a bottle in the evenings to help me out)
I have the same. You can try nursing in an upright position like the koala hold or I’ve read that you can also gently use your fingers to hold your breast in a scissor hold to slow down the flow of milk. I’ve just joined a fb group called Breastfeeding and lactation support UK which is amazing. They have some really helpful guides.
My HV advised me to lean back whilst feeding (cradle hold) so the milk doesn't come out as fast. It seems to have helped as my little one hasn't been getting hiccups as much
I do laid back feeding, hand express to get my let down going first (catch in a muslin or collection shells) and then latch baby after. Not ideal in public though, I'm all for whipping one out but I don't really enjoy milking myself in coffee shops, so then I just tuck a muslin in my top to try and stop myself being a complete mess afterwards. ...and then cry at 3am when we've been awake for an hour because he's distraught with farts. 👌🏻
National breastfeeding helpline on fb do messenger with trained volunteers and will have some good tips. They’ve been incredible to me when I had latch issues early on x
I let him suckle until I can feel it coming then take him off and hold a Muslin there until it stops or he chokes bless c
I had this and turns out I had an oversupply issue which led to digestion issues with my boy This link is really helpful explaining what it is and how to address it https://www.laleche.org.uk/too-much-milk-and-oversupply/ Once I addressed the oversupply the letdown became much more manageable
Thanks everyone for the messages x
Oh and my milk drips out all over me, my bra, baby boy’s clothes etc because he pulls off during a feed a lot
