Anyone currently waiting for Induction/ARM at Jessop Wing

I’m 41 + 5 and on the list to have my waters broken at Jessop Wing but have been told that due to labour ward capacity and staffing issues I could be waiting days for a ‘slot’ - taking me way beyond 42 weeks gestation, completely defying NICE guidelines on induction post-41 weeks and putting my unborn baby at risk. I’m completely outraged by this, feel totally failed by Jessop Wing and their ‘care’. Just wondering if there are any other ladies on here in this situation and as angry as I am???

They say a few days, but it's usually quite fast either 12 hours or a day ish. Jessops hospital is 40 midwifes short. It is very frustrating though

I was due to be induced yesterday at 10am, got a phone call at 8:40am saying they need to delay and will ring me back with a time.. it’s been rearranged for 12pm today, we will see if that still goes ahead. Fingers crossed for you xx

Ring them and point this out. If they went there to be a bed there will suddenly be a bed. If there REALLY isn’t a bed they can send you to another hospital.

I’m sure the midwives at Jessops are just as angry, short staffed and short payed. It’s not them you should be angry at, it’s the world we live in now.

@Phoebe of course, this isn’t an attack on individuals but a sad reflection of the state of our NHS, after years of cuts and underfunding Doesn’t make the situation any less distressing for a heavily pregnant woman concerned about the safe delivery of her baby, who has every reason to be angry at the failings of her maternity care.

Of course, and I totally understand that, it is very distressing. I wasn’t attacking you and sorry if it came across like that. 😊

@Phoebe not at all, I completely agree with everything you said 😊the midwives have all been amazing, it’s just the system unfortunately letting women down

I were meant to have an induction when I got to about 41 weeks but then my back waters went 2-3 days before and I ended up having my lil boy September 21st as well as bcs my lil boy pooped inside me and so the jessops admitted me on the day my back waters went which was day before I had my lil boy via c-section

Oh bless you. It's so frustrating for you and for the staff who definitely don't want you waiting so long. I'd recommend calling and asking for daily CTG monitoring (if you want it) whilst you're waiting. Where I work we've been lucky. We have had to delay some inductions for 24 hours but the longest anyone has waited to have their waters broken is also about 24 hours. But other hospitals close to us have waiting times of 4 to 5 days because they have 2 or 3 midwives covering their labour ward and it isn't safe to electively bring in someone else who is going to need one to one care. It's not even whether there's a physical bed space, it's whether they can give you the one to one care you need once those waters are broken It is a horrible time for all involved at the moment. All I can do is apologise that you're going through this. Xx

@Jo thank you, that’s really interesting to get your insight. I’ve now been on the list for three days and was told today they have not got through any priority inductions in the last 24 hours!!! Daily monitoring seems to be the only option at the moment. It just isn’t good enough x

You are absolutely right, it isn't good enough. There will be women coming in with emergencies/spontaneous labour who have to take priority over all elective work, including inductions. As others have said, it comes from staff leaving in droves due to how they've been treated over the last few years. It's a nationwide problem. The government need to pull their fingers out and start funding maternity services properly. Considering we help bring the next generation into the world, you'd think we'd be a priority. Just please know that they will be trying their best. I know that doesn't help you at all. I hope you get in soon. Xxx

For anyone still reading or interested - I am now beyond 42 weeks and continue to be told there is no capacity on labour ward to break my waters nor space for me at any other hospitals in the area. I’ve received this same message for 4 days now. I’m in turmoil and extreme discomfort, not knowing if my baby will be delivered safely as each day goes by. This is an appalling situation which is has to be bordering on clinical negligence. What a sorry state our health service and maternity care system is in.

Oh gosh I'm so sorry. Contact the maternity matron.

Any further?? I’m currently on a ward here and they have been inducing while I’ve been here so why they haven’t got you in yet is beyond me x

Did you get on?
