Sma Alfamino

Is anyone on this formula and what bottles/teats do you use? My little girls been started on this today but struggling as it keeps blocking up the bottle teat. She has mam bottles and was on size 1, we changed these to size 2 earlier and it’s still happening. Brought the size 3 teats tonight but worried they will be to quick for her or still block up.

My little boy is on alfamino we use MAM bottles size 2 teats - I do find you have to really shake it hard otherwise it’s quite lumpy or bitty! X

@Jordan it doesn’t seem lumpy at all, can’t even see anything stuck but it’s definitely struggling to come out and she’s getting frustrated. Not sure if it’s because she has gaviscon in the bottle too x

Hey is sma alfamino a thick formula? Were on neocate and its too thin so we use carobel and use a size 2 teat on mam bottles xx

If the gaviscon is like carobel and acting as a thickener then the size 3 teats will probably work! My little boy struggled with size 2 so we use 3 or the X size ones x

@Leanne aww yeah could be. How old is baby? We used to be on Gaviscon but they changed us to lansoprazole and it’s been so much better as it doesn’t constipate them or affect the formula as it’s an oral medicine once a day! X

@Jordan she’s 8 weeks. We’ve stopped the gaviscon in the last two feeds and the bottles are no longer blocking. But she’s still refusing it 😢 x

It’s due to the graininess of the milk. We use it fine with Gaviscon but have to properly shake it and pretty much feed straight away. If we leave it for any period of time it goes too grainy for it to come out size 2 MAM xx

@Jordan PPI’s like lansoprazole and omeprezole can cause constipation, not as common as with Gaviscon or carobel but it can still happen and is quite common x

We had this issue and we had to go up to size 3 with mam, it has tiny little grains that get stuck in the teat. Keep her up right and only half the teat full and she will start to adjust to the flow. My little one started refusing bottles so we were told to add a bit of vanilla essence on the bottle teat. It worked every time x

@Yazmin we’ve never had a problem with constipation on it! My little boy was worse on the Gaviscon, he had to have lactulose with it but I suppose every baby will react different to each one xxx

@Jordan neither have we! However, it’s quite a common side effect so you saying it doesn’t constipate them is purely based off your experiences (which is perfectly fine) but it can cause nasty constipation sometimes. Every baby is different though but I have heard loads of people suffer which shocked me at first… then I double checked the side effect list 😂🤦🏼‍♀️ xxx

@Yazmin to be fair my comment was based on that I was told by the paediatricians! But that’s another thing.. no two will tell you the same 🫠😂! Xx
