I think that you are right to be aware of the challenges, for some people breastfeeding can be super super difficult and for others it works easily. The beauty of it is that you do not have to make a hard and fast decision right now. If it’s something you want to try the midwives will give you lots of help at that first initial feed and whilst you are in the hospital! Take it day by day or even feed by feed. If you have some formula available to you there is no pressure!! My BFing journey has not been easy! I am having to express my milk to feed my little one!! Which is not the way I thought it would have gone! The breastfeeding network have lots of good resources and classes you can go to before little one makes an entrance!
If you were even considering breastfeeding, the midwives will give you so much help in latching etc, I was in the hospital for 4 days due to complications and I think that’s why I breastfed for 7 months! You can try, if it’s not for you, it’s not for you! Take ready made formula bottles with you of course. I would go in with an open mind to either bottle or breast and see whichever is best for you and baby 😊
Breastfeeding is the best decision I ever made but that’s just my opinion. It’s not without challenges but those challenges can still happen if you don’t breastfeed. I think people like to talk about how hard it is but forget to mention how easy it is to send your baby to sleep on your boob instead of breaking your back rocking them and how blissful it is to feed your baby in your sleep or just generally how beautiful those moments are when you’re on the sofa feeding your baby and the rest of the world around you just doesn’t exist for a moment. I think if you’re really on the fence then maybe combi feeding could work well for you and take the pressure off of you
