Getting a bit worried.

I was in the maternity assessment centre this morning due to feeling a ‘gush’ and having some cramping. They’ve said it’s nothing to worry about and did a swab for fluids that came back negative. They think the cramping could either be down to my cervix being tilted backwards or just my bowels playing up a bit (I’m 30+4) but I’ve noticed my bump looks completely different since yesterday. I was very well rounded before and now it looks to have flattened other than around the baby. A couple of my friends have said it does look like I’ve lost some fluid and that he’s definitely dropped. He’s still pretty active so I’m not overly worried about his well-being as yet but my friends have asked me to push for a sooner scan, I’m having one at 32 weeks on the 5th of December already as a growth scan as I have type 2 diabetes but I’m just wondering what everyone else thinks? I don’t want to call up and sound stupid as I was only in hospital less than 12 hours ago. I don’t know if I’m overthinking it or that it is actually something to worry about.

Delighted safe arrival little man

Hallelujah! I’m praying for a safe and healthy delivery for both you in baby. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

@Sarah that's great news! Maybe with him being a bit smaller, he still has more space to hide 😅 all the best for the rest of your pregnancy ❤️

@Sarah ahh I’m so pleased everything is okay!! Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well xxx

@Sarah yaay good ❤️

Oh I see you had your scan! Fantastic news, he looks gorgeous bet you can’t wait to meet him x

@Sarah when I had my measurements they also told me that in utero measurements don't always mean much, they can vary widely and the margins of error are significant at that size. The biggest contributor is baby's tummy size and that can be squished and contorted based on his / her position.

@Sarah awww look at that wee cheeky face. He's looking so proud of himself, gave you a reason to see him early. Wee monkeys even before they are born. Hope this puts your mind at ease until your nhs scan 🤍🤍🤍

@Sarah I’m 20th centile and 38 weeks now and they don’t seem worried about the size so try not to worry too much ♥️ so glad you and baby are okay!!

UPDATE! He’s measuring a little on the smaller side (30th centile) but his fluid seems okay and he’s in the correct position. Should all be okay for the foreseeable future. Hopefully he won’t come early. they’re not too concerned about his size as it’s within the ‘norm’ but he’s a little under average. They think it’s just his positioning for the size of my bump.

Please give us an update!

I just remembered. This happened to me, i was at a midwife appointment (just getting over covid, had a uti) and she measured my bump. It was slightly smaller than about a week or so ago so she booked me in for a scan (appointment was on a friday so had a scan on a Tuesday)... Tuesday came, i was late for the scan in the morning so they had to give me one in the afternoon. So we went to see my sister in law for a cuppa. My contractions started coming in strong, barely any break between them. Went to the scan, everything was fine tho i was still contracting strong. My midwife saw me, thought they might be braxton hicks but then said that they shouldn't be painful (they aren't as did have them for weeks by then). Anyhow, i gave birth the next day (40weeks)😂 i was able to rest at least between 11pm and 4am but then gave birth 3 hrs later 🤣 if i waited any longer, definitely would have had her at home as she was birthing herself pretty much.... Good luck with the scan today, hope it all shows everything is well.

If your belly has changed, something has changed inside! You need a scan to find out what has changed. My belly looked different one day and baby went from laying sideways to head down. Your belly does tell you a lot about your bubs position and your fluids.

Hope your okay xx

Are you okay?? Please send an update💗🙏🏻

Next thing I know, i was told to go to the hospital immediately and i given birth that same day😭

This happened to me get your scan done. My swab came back negative and when I have mentioned it to my sonographer at my next scan that I feel like my fluid might be low when she checked, she indeed confirmed that it was low.

My water broke and for some reason the test came back negative for water breaking so they had a nurse check with a scapula and she said she can tell my water did break. You should insist they check immediately because of the risk of infection, they may have to induce you if you don't spontaneously go into labor within like 72 hours

I noticed this is how my stomach looked after my water broke(at home). I remember thinking "dang I look so skinny, is there really a baby in there?" 😆

Can I ask, as strange as it may sound, did you feel the gush inside your body/belly area or was it a vaginal gush, placentas can tare , mine did and I was very low on fluid and had a lot of complications and even had an ambiosintesis while I was in labor with my daughter, which in turn drowned her and they then had to work on her when she was born for a good 20 minutes just to clear her lungs and get her to breathe then she gasped for air for hours before she leveled out and ended up being fine , thank the lord, but placenta tares are no joke , so maybe just keep that in mind depending on what you experienced , and my daughters was so small it barley showed up on her scans! Praying all is ok with baby and mom, but the shape of your belly to me personally does look quite deflated up too and not just as if it dropped ! Good luck! Always advocate for your baby no matter how crazy you think people may think you are, who cares they don’t have a voice yet, your their voice momma🥰

Do you have a picture of you upright from before and today? You may have dropped and that's very normal. If you feel like you keep leaking, I would go back

Always trust your gut mama. Ask for those extra scans.

I’m glad you were able to find someone who would scan you. Please update us! I pray everything is well!

@Sarah yess I’m glad you did. I hope everything is okay and you feel 100% reassured x

@Sarah if still unsure, you should be able to go to emergency or triage. Perhaps a support person you have could look up the high risk triages in the area, those tend to take families seriously bc they have the resources and capacity to help. Low risk triages many times don’t bc they’re used to working with patients with less difficulty. Sharing from experience. Hope all goes well mama

Please don’t leave it to the advice you’ve been given over the phone. I know you have booked a private scan for tomorrow, but if you feel like something isn’t right then definitely do go back into the hospital and asked to be checked.

My bump completely changed when my baby moved into the head down position at 31 weeks or so

I would call back & ask for a scan sooner or to get checked out at least by your OB! Don’t worry about the amount of times you call, this is all for your & your baby’s well being! I felt crazy when I went into L&D 3 times but the 3rd time ended in an induction because of blood pressure! Trust your gut! 🙏🏼

I had that same swab and it isn't the best test at all. It detects your waters if it's there at that moment but it doesn't tell you if you lost them earlier in the day. I had a scan done due to lack of movement (all fine) week later the same happened and was sent for another scan and then asked to go to see a nurse straight after for a swab which at the time I didn't know why but this time showed I'd lost almost half my waters (they had slowly trickled so I hadn't realised) however when they did the swab it came back negative yet the scan proved I had lost my waters. I was sent home and told to come back if I felt any leaking, 2 days later I had leaking so went back for the swab which again was negative but then a scan showed I'd lost more. I was then kept in and induced the next morning. I would definitely be pushing for a scan asap to check. I learnt the hard way you have to fight and advocate for yourself and your baby unfortunately.

Babe you always know what’s best, and when it concerns you and your baby always push. No matter how you feel. I always felt like I was pestering them by calling up and going in but that’s what they’re there for. Kept going in saying it felt and seemed different, they felt and said everything was normal and baby was in the correct position, i new something wasn’t right though and then they Found out my baby was breach and weighing very heavy, ended up having a c-section due to finding out the position over a scan. Only got a scan by saying I had reduced movements. Xx

I'm 31 weeks and my belly dropped already with mine but as far as the gush I would keep and close eye if it feels like your leaking fluid go get check or call l and d

You know your body best and trust your instincts. Glad you have got a private scan booked, I hope all is well.

Sounds like he’s dropped and your body is prepping it’s self, I had a very similar thing to you around the same time xx

It's better to be safe then sorry. If you feel like you should, get it checked out and see and if there is nothing wrong then great but but at least u checked xxx

Always go with your gut feeling. Keep pushing to be seen. I was always told they would rather see me thousands of time than not at all

Doctors are wrong all the time and whomever is telling you 'if the doctor said everything is good then it is" is effed up and wrong. Please go in for another scan. Bother them mama. Better safe than sorry, the shape change would cause me to feel concern too. Especially after a gush

If something feels wrong to you, push for help immediately. If you find out it’s nothing, then at least you have peace of mind

Tbf I probably would push for a scan too like your friends advised x

Get a private ultrasound booked if you are feeling worried. They usually can get you in same day and will put your mind at ease.

I mean it didn’t see your earlier photos but I see what u mean no harm in going in again if you’re worried ❤️❤️❤️

Keep on at them are you booked for rvh?

@Sarah oh how unfair 😢 that’s really unacceptable, I’m glad your able to book a reassurance scan though but you shouldn’t be having to do that! Some people, myself included, don’t even have private clinics in our area I’d have to get a ferry to get a private scan - it’s so unfair for the NHS to treat people this way & make you feel so anxious when they could easily give you the reassurance you are seeking :( xx

@Molly 🤍 they said I didn’t fit the criteria for an earlier scan x

@Sarah were the NHS not willing to do anything else? X

@Destinee a small update - I’ve booked a private reassurance scan for tomorrow. Think it’ll put me at ease and will be nice to see him even if all is well still.

@Sarah yess. Pls keep us updated ❤️

If you’re worried, get medical attention asap! It’s better to check and feel silly than to wait and have regrets. You will never regret checking on your baby to make sure they are okay. Wishing you the best 🤍

Call back as often as you need. They said the same kinds of BS when I had BV with my first a couple days before they actually diagnosed me with it and then the 3 times I took myself to the hospital I keep being sent home and I came back that 4th day and gave birth at 28 weeks because they were wrong and late to figure it out

was your baby breech by any chance before? my bump was so rounded when baby was breech as soon as she was turned it completely dropped xxx

@Sarah he could be hiding in your pelvis/back to back then especially if you are getting back and pelvic pain and kicks are more stronger at the front. Definitely keep an eye on it and if anything changes in the next few days leading up to the scan then defo go get checked again. Xxx
