Getting a bit worried.

I was in the maternity assessment centre this morning due to feeling a ‘gush’ and having some cramping. They’ve said it’s nothing to worry about and did a swab for fluids that came back negative. They think the cramping could either be down to my cervix being tilted backwards or just my bowels playing up a bit (I’m 30+4) but I’ve noticed my bump looks completely different since yesterday. I was very well rounded before and now it looks to have flattened other than around the baby. A couple of my friends have said it does look like I’ve lost some fluid and that he’s definitely dropped. He’s still pretty active so I’m not overly worried about his well-being as yet but my friends have asked me to push for a sooner scan, I’m having one at 32 weeks on the 5th of December already as a growth scan as I have type 2 diabetes but I’m just wondering what everyone else thinks? I don’t want to call up and sound stupid as I was only in hospital less than 12 hours ago. I don’t know if I’m overthinking it or that it is actually something to worry about.

It’s just the complete change in bump shape that’s thrown me off. I know every pregnancy is different and people carry differently all the time but I had quite a round bump up until last night really. They’ve told me it’s nothing to worry about and the growth scan should show if there’s any changes but I don’t know if I can wait 2 weeks.

Call the hospital if you're in any way uneasy. They would much rather you come in and have nothing wrong, than not come in and have something happen. You really never know and they would always rather err on the side of caution.

🤔 please check again ask them for a scan to check fluid around baby.

@Destinee I think I’m going to call up again soon and ask. I’m just in and out of worry about it if I’m honest.

He could have dropped, my daughter was fully engaged at 31wk and she was born at 41+2, so that means nothing x

I lost my waters at 35 weeks and what u have mentioned maybe your waters. Plead with them for a scan internal and external thats how they confirmed my waters have gone. Hope u get some answers x

The change is bump shape could just be a change in baby’s position, they still have lots of room at 30 weeks to move around. If you’re really worried call and ask for a scan to check fluid levels x

my bump changes from time to time. it changed today actually, yesterday i looked huge and he was more active than usual and today i look so much smaller. i’m assuming all the movement was him moving around a lot. baby position can affect the way the bump looks especially at 30 weeks! but of course if you feel like something is up then don’t hesitate to call, you won’t look stupid!! pregnancy is such an intense time emotionally and having your mind at ease is more important than what they think of you!

Definitely call, trust your gut instinct

I have seen people’s bump shape change like that if they’d been backed up / constipated and then managed to clear some, not that that’s your situation necessarily just that I’ve seen it and they were completely fine.

By all means push for extra checks if you’re concerned but I will just share that in my case my bump changed shape when my baby moved around. If they had their back to the outer belly or had flipped round. Have they checked on previous appointments where they are laying so you can compare?

If the swab was negative it’s not your water it’s was pee. They do however tell you to go back if you have any concerns or worries. If you don’t feel right go back x

@Rosie they haven’t compared anything other than photos I showed and they said it shouldn’t be anything to worry about and that the scan in 2 weeks will tell if there’s any differences. I’m honestly just worried about the fluid around him at the moment but I’m gonna keep an eye for a bit and see if anything changes x

Deffo get a second opinion, I don’t know how accurate those swabs are and your belly looked exactly the same as mine when my waters was popped x

@Em this defo happened to me at like 38 weeks 😂🫣

Bumps changing shape is very normal throughout pregnancy. Baby simply changing position can change the whole appearance of your bump. If baby has had a particularly big shift in position this can also instigate cramps

@Sarah if it’s your waters it should be continual. They say to put in a pad and lay down for half hour and then get up and see if it fills the pad, so you could try that out

If you feel something is off and you’re not happy to leave it then please go get checked out. You have every right to demand to be seen and looked over thoroughly. It’s your body and your choice what you do. But don’t feel bad for going back over and over again if need be. Xx

You can definitely call them up and mention you are worried. Have they told you to put a pad on and see if it gets full? Baby could have changed position like being back to back or hising in your pelvis. Where are you feeling the kicks?

@Samantha we don't do the minimum movement thing as all babies have a different pattern. Its suggested to keep an eye on any changes but that's about it

Please call💗 it’s best to follow your gutt feeling and feel safe. Don’t worry about what they think. I call for the most minor things and don’t care. It’s your & your baby’s health!! Even if you left 5 mins ago, call and ask. Advocate for yourself and your baby.

@gabi I’m feeling his kicks a lot stronger today in the front and feeling him push out a lot more, I felt it all before but it wasn’t as visually noticeable. It could just be his positioning though, he’s always been a wriggler, even on scans before I could feel him. I’m gonna keep an eye for a bit though and see how I get on. X

Don't leave it. My waters broke and I didn't know because I was expecting the gush like I had with my first. My belly started feeling different and like no water and I went to hospital and they told me there wasn't a single bit of amniotic fluid in there (been like that for up to 72 hours) and if I left it a day longer my girl might of not been here. She was still moving around inside of me, but scary what could of happened. I trusted my instincts, so definitely trust yours. It does not lie xx

I would definitely push for a scan to check water levels. It’s quite possible to get a false negative on those tests and it’s really important to get on antibiotics and monitoring if they have gone as the risk of infection is so high. I’ve known women to have repeatedly test negative but have completely lost their waters. Not saying that’s happened but it’s important to be aware if it has. My waters started leaking last week and they did test positive (though luckily still have water around baby) but I’m being monitored loads and on antibiotics and they have a whole protocol if this does happen.

My baby’s head is 3/5ths engaged and I’m 38+5 and my bump never ‘dropped’ or looked different. Everyone carries fluid differently and babies change position etc so don’t read too much into that ♥️ The fluid thing does sound worrying and I would keep a pad on to monitor it and if you get any more/you’re worried definitely go back in! I hope you’re okay 🥰

Always go with your gut. Worst case scenario you’re wrong and baby is fine. The worst worst scenario you ignore your gut and just accept an answer from the doctor and something is wrong. Remember doctors are humans too and aren’t always right and I think a lot of people are too trusting and just assume doctors are always correct.

So I’ve called. I asked for a scan and explained everything that’s happened. I sadly don’t fit the criteria for the scan to be pushed forward but they’ve said it sounds like he’s dropped so even if the waters haven’t broken yet they may do soon. They’ve just asked me to keep a closer eye on his movements and the shape of my bump. Mentioned my back and pelvic pain and they’ve just told me to get in touch with my midwife to hopefully get a referral to physio. They’ve said I can always call back if needed but it doesn’t sound too concerning to them as yet. Thank you for everyone that’s commented, made me realise I wasn’t overthinking anything or being silly with it.

If you're still worried, would it be an option for you to have a private scan? I had some worries during my pregnancy and found it helpful.

@Sarah he could be hiding in your pelvis/back to back then especially if you are getting back and pelvic pain and kicks are more stronger at the front. Definitely keep an eye on it and if anything changes in the next few days leading up to the scan then defo go get checked again. Xxx

was your baby breech by any chance before? my bump was so rounded when baby was breech as soon as she was turned it completely dropped xxx

Call back as often as you need. They said the same kinds of BS when I had BV with my first a couple days before they actually diagnosed me with it and then the 3 times I took myself to the hospital I keep being sent home and I came back that 4th day and gave birth at 28 weeks because they were wrong and late to figure it out

If you’re worried, get medical attention asap! It’s better to check and feel silly than to wait and have regrets. You will never regret checking on your baby to make sure they are okay. Wishing you the best 🤍

@Sarah yess. Pls keep us updated ❤️

@Destinee a small update - I’ve booked a private reassurance scan for tomorrow. Think it’ll put me at ease and will be nice to see him even if all is well still.

@Sarah were the NHS not willing to do anything else? X

@Molly 🤍 they said I didn’t fit the criteria for an earlier scan x

@Sarah oh how unfair 😢 that’s really unacceptable, I’m glad your able to book a reassurance scan though but you shouldn’t be having to do that! Some people, myself included, don’t even have private clinics in our area I’d have to get a ferry to get a private scan - it’s so unfair for the NHS to treat people this way & make you feel so anxious when they could easily give you the reassurance you are seeking :( xx

Keep on at them are you booked for rvh?

I mean it didn’t see your earlier photos but I see what u mean no harm in going in again if you’re worried ❤️❤️❤️

Get a private ultrasound booked if you are feeling worried. They usually can get you in same day and will put your mind at ease.

Tbf I probably would push for a scan too like your friends advised x

If something feels wrong to you, push for help immediately. If you find out it’s nothing, then at least you have peace of mind

Doctors are wrong all the time and whomever is telling you 'if the doctor said everything is good then it is" is effed up and wrong. Please go in for another scan. Bother them mama. Better safe than sorry, the shape change would cause me to feel concern too. Especially after a gush

Always go with your gut feeling. Keep pushing to be seen. I was always told they would rather see me thousands of time than not at all

It's better to be safe then sorry. If you feel like you should, get it checked out and see and if there is nothing wrong then great but but at least u checked xxx

Sounds like he’s dropped and your body is prepping it’s self, I had a very similar thing to you around the same time xx

I'm 31 weeks and my belly dropped already with mine but as far as the gush I would keep and close eye if it feels like your leaking fluid go get check or call l and d

Babe you always know what’s best, and when it concerns you and your baby always push. No matter how you feel. I always felt like I was pestering them by calling up and going in but that’s what they’re there for. Kept going in saying it felt and seemed different, they felt and said everything was normal and baby was in the correct position, i new something wasn’t right though and then they Found out my baby was breach and weighing very heavy, ended up having a c-section due to finding out the position over a scan. Only got a scan by saying I had reduced movements. Xx

I had that same swab and it isn't the best test at all. It detects your waters if it's there at that moment but it doesn't tell you if you lost them earlier in the day. I had a scan done due to lack of movement (all fine) week later the same happened and was sent for another scan and then asked to go to see a nurse straight after for a swab which at the time I didn't know why but this time showed I'd lost almost half my waters (they had slowly trickled so I hadn't realised) however when they did the swab it came back negative yet the scan proved I had lost my waters. I was sent home and told to come back if I felt any leaking, 2 days later I had leaking so went back for the swab which again was negative but then a scan showed I'd lost more. I was then kept in and induced the next morning. I would definitely be pushing for a scan asap to check. I learnt the hard way you have to fight and advocate for yourself and your baby unfortunately.
