Basildon or Southend

Just found out I’m pregnant and need to decide whether I get myself booked in at Basildon our Southend. Any advice? I had my first child at basildon my experience was good all the midwives were lovely but I found the hospital to be quite run down and not very modern. Is Southend any better? It adds 15 mins to my drive going there but if it’s better service and provisions I don’t really mind

i had my baby boy at basildon hospital and i was induced so all my midwives were lovely up till the midwife i had whilst in active labour! so it’s a hit or miss at basildon x

Southend are far better x

I was Basildon and had a good experience. I think it's just luck on the day as I have heard bad stories of both Basildon and Southend x

While I didn't give birth at Basildon, when I was doing my research I noticed that Basildon didn't have the option for gas and air.....it may well be back up and running now but that impacted my decision not to go there at the time! X

@Tara yes! gas and air is finally back! has been back since june x

I gave birth at basildon and hated everything about it, but I had scans in Southend and thought the team over there was incredible and the midwives were so compassionate and accommodating

I gave birth to my son at Basildon in 2021 and having another there in January. Personal opinion was that the midwife’s and doctors who looked after me were great! Only downside was the food😅 which I’m sure is similar with all hospitals! X

I was living in Basildon when we were pregnant with our son then moved to near Southend- I didn't wanna move hospitals so stayed at basildon and had an amazing birth - FF to 5years later and pregnant again ,we are still near Southend but chose to go back to Basildon amd once again couldn't fault them. The only time I wished I went to Southend was the dreaded drive with contractions - You'll hear good and bad stories about both hospitals hun and both are just as good as one another - go with the one that's easier for you with regards to Mat Apts and easy access 🙃

Had my little girl in basildon in August and cedar ward had been done up compared to my previous birth in November 2020 xx

I agree Basildon hospital is a little run down but i had my daughter there in 2019. I was induced and honestly can’t fault the care I received from every single person. I’m booked to have my second child there in May.
