She’s gorgeous. Unfortunately if you meet the criteria then she may be classed as so and you would need to get an exemption https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/official-definition-of-an-xl-bully-dog/official-definition-of-an-xl-bully-dog
@Jenna thank you🥺 I contacted pets at home and they said that unfortunately they cannot intervene
@Jenna aw she’s lovely , this is what I’m saying I don’t think my pup looks like a bully at all and she’s only 1 so she still has time to grow
Wait til the court challenge later this month before you make any decisions as you have until the end of January to do the exemption online xx
@Dee thank you, I understand this but I don’t know if she meets the criteria’s because half of them I don’t really understand. She’s 2 inches taller than a male and 3 inches taller than a female
@Joanna the court are challenging the exemption?? Do you know when this will be by any chance? Thank you
@Gracey going by that I'd say she needs the exemption just to protect her
@Gracey the court challenge isn't for the legislation but for the rescues to have more time to move them
@Jayna pets at home said they aren’t able to intervene. And thank you xx
I dont think she looks like an XL Bully. It is up to you to decide if you believe your dog is XL Bully type based on measurements, but the measurements given don't particularly match an XL Bully. Theresa Coffey gave conflicting information in the debate about size and weight which doesnt match the legislation, however, DEFRA are advising people who have estbalished breeds (recognised by places such as kennel club etc) are not within the scope of the ban. However, they aren't being very helpful when people are asking them to say if dogs such as yours are not going to be typed. The injuction went in on the 31st to allow animals placed into kennels after October to have more time and then on the 12th Jan there will be a judicial review which is challenging the decision. It may not reverse the ban but even if it doesn't, plenty of information will be released which will help people like you and I make a decision. We have an American Bulldog (not the same breed as the XL Bully for those who don't know)
@Gracey she doesn’t to me and clearly isnt but this stupid legislation is so vague. Best bet is to find a supportive vet to help. x
@Charleigh thank you so much that was really helpful ❤️
And have neighbours who have XL Bullies. Our dog looks nothing like the XL Bullies or any of the XL Bullies online. The similarities are they are bulldog breeds, just like the cane corso can sometimes resemble other bulldog breeds. The issue with XL Bullies is they have been bred largely through backyard breeders who have probably mixed them with whatever they can get their hands on, or even don't have XL Bullies and might be selling cane corsos as XL Bullies as they're just looking to make a quick penny. Similarly, some people have been sold other bulldog breeds to find out that they have a bully. I absolutely understand the concern. We are choosing to not exempt as we do not have an XL Bully and she does not meet over 60% of criteria. We already muzzle in public (she will eat anything....) and there is very little chance we can be accused of having an out of control dog. However, the decision is absolutely individual. Just note that any dog registered as XL Bully will not be able to get insurance
@Dee it is really stupid the whole ban, some of the XL bully attacks they don’t even know if they were actually bullys or not it’s just unnecessary stress for every dog owner at this point. Do you know any vets that may be helpful I tried to call my local rspca but no answer and let’s at home was just useless x

@Charleigh how was you able to identify wether she meets the requirements or not because I’m not sure if I’m just silly but I only understood the height part and my pup is taller than the male and female requirement , she also doesn’t have a “blocky head” nor does she have a muscular build
But they will be able to get the dogs trust 3rd party liability at the moment. This might change as banned breeds cant really have 3rd party liability but for now, you can. People are saying their dogs aren't listed as XL Bullies but images I have seen of the exemption certificate show breed type - XL Bully so just take this into consideration. It wont differentiate. Please ignore the posts on Facebook where people are saying they've had their dogs seized as part of the ban already. I think there is loads of fearmongering. It's not illegal to own an unexempted XL Bully until 1st Feb. Let's just hope we'll get some better info after the 12th, at the very least!!
From what I've seen on the gov website they're more concerned with power for the size, so muscular types where the chest is usually wider than the length, etc. Yours doesn't look like a bully to me. Head looks a little staffy cross to some people but that's a bit of a stretch tbh. I can see from the second pic her body isn't stocky either. But if you are concerned I would contact someone who deals with breed identification and/or get a DNA test for absolute clarification. Like others have mentioned, wait until the 12th for more info before spending a load of money on breed tests and experts.
@Gracey again like you said, if you meet one requirement, but dont meet the others, you're less likely to have to worry about type! So our dog is exactly 19cm which means you need to rely on the other measurements. Check against the other more concrete measurements and then use the more descriptive. Based on the measurements set out, I believe you are ok. Public opinion might be a bit different (all large dogs are seemingly being pulled in by the public) but most are reasonable enough I find?
Maybe to someone who doesn't know dogs, they may stupidly assume she is. But as someone with a few brain cells, she's clearly not x
@Becky Yh she’s still a pup she only just turned 1 , thank you for your help ❤️
@Dayna aw he’s beautiful, oh no that’s such a shame ☹️
@Nikki I was going to get a dna test done but the gov website said they wouldn’t except it their only going of the characteristics of the dog
@Becky Yh that’s really sad at this point I feel like the government is just doing it to make money off scared owners
@Becky I just don’t understand especially as a lot of ppl in the uk are dog owners or just dog lovers 😩
@Gracey plus this rule again puts the onus on the dog type or breed rather than the dog owner. Any dog is dangerous in the hands of a bad owner. They should have never gotten rid of dog licenses IMO.
To me she looks like a valenheimer. But as far as I could tell the legislation is trying to ban breeding all dogs over a certain size.
@Tymmathi she looks like a Weimaraner cross to me, she has their classic colouring
@Heather I think you have the correct spelling for the same breed. Gorgeous velvet, rabbit hunters though.
@Tymmathi they are beautiful dogs aren't they.
She’s absolutely gorgeous I’m sorry I can’t give better advice but I’m kind of in the same situation I don’t know if mine fits either. To me you can see she’s a mixed breed and has a lot of characteristics that don’t fit the type I would maybes get suggestion from a vet?
