Baby girl name

Hi! We want to name our coming daughter Milia. Does that shock you as/if English native? We live in the UK but English isn’t our mother tongue, when I googled “Milia” I found out that it was a skin disease, we don’t have problem with that tbh but we are wondering if it’s a well known disease and if when English natives hear “Milia” they think of a name or a skin disease? Thanks for your help, and happy new year to all of you and your families 💕

@Ana thanks! Yes, but did you know about it? Or did you google it to check that’s what I mean. I wouldn’t want people to hear her name and think of this but rather of just a cute name if you know what I mean

I know what it means but you could go something similar like Amelia? Or change the spelling if you like it x. Like for my boy is Nicolas i took iff the silent H becasue i felt its not needed. Maybe Melia?

When I first heard Milia I immediately thought about the skin thing 😬 I had a bunch of those at one point from sun exposure

@Jessa would the spelling change anything? Milya Mihlia were not sure yet. But I don’t think it would change anything as when we say her name when she will say her name her entire life

@Joanna What about changing pronunciation? Instead of Mil-ee-yuh, it could be Muh-lee-yuh (Malea) or like you mentioned with the spelling change Mil-yuh.

It’d be the French pronunciation so more like Mil-hi-ah Would it make a difference to you (and other English natives)? Or would you still think of the skin pb right away

@Joanna Oh that is soooo pretty. I wouldn’t think of it if I had known the correct pronunciation. Kinda like my friend Joel. You’d immediately think “Jole” but it’s pronounced “Jo-el”. But mispronunciation is gonna happen anywhere 🤷🏽‍♀️

Ah french… my name is spelt french but i say it the english way. Its very annoying to keep correcting people. As someone who has gone through that for 28 years and still going. Id be very careful with naming and spelling. Because people in uk simply don’t care. Like after saying to them Im cherie(cherry) they still call me sherry/shur reee
