Potential cows milk allergy?!

My LB IS 3 weeks old tomorrow and has been what we thought struggling with wind over the past two weeks. The past week he’s begin to get more and more symptoms (will list below) and in so much pain especially at night. Symptoms projectile vomit (this happened Saturday with a few spit ups before hand) - 5-7 bad nappies a day yellow/green mucus type poo - seems extremely uncomfortable, pulling legs up to stomach, screaming in pain, arching back - lots of sneezing and coughing - watery eyes, then leads to green gunk - lots (and lots) of farting -will almost always have hiccups after a feed - fussiness when on the bottle - will cry after feed and we struggle to wind ( won’t sit still, arching back etc On Saturday morning we rang 111 and they asked to go to local community hospital, the dr said he has reflux and has given us a food plan 1oz every 2hrs. We followed this throughout the day but by 11pm that night he seemed worse. So we took him to an and e at 2am. We seen two different drs which they said he seems to have colic as well as reflux. They then said we should do 2oz every 3hs. It’s been 24hrs and he does seem a little more settled however still showing symptoms above he then went 5hrs asleep where I had to wake him for a feed, soon after he had an explosive nappy (pictured) this was 37hrs after his diarrhoea nappies. I have messaged my health visitor she’s going to ring me back first thing and I’m going to also ring the dr in the morning I just wanted to see if anyone else has been through this and it was just colic and reflux or if my feeling is right and there’s more too it and he has a milk allergy or something else.

I had the same problem. I ignored the hospital advice that it was just wind and colic. He was in too much pain. I went and bought Neocate hypoallergenic formula and he was like a different baby after three days. I’m not suggesting you do the same but that mummy instinct was too strong for me. My little one had similar symptoms including under eye swelling and acne like spots and severe redness. He’s much better now but suffering wind still!

I’m so sorry you’re going through this - post like this make me so sad. Colic and reflux is a symptom, not a diagnosis - so many healthcare professionals are quick to “diagnose” reflux but fail to investigate the cause - and there will be one. Sometimes it is allergies, coupled with skin and digestive issue - but more often than not there are feeding issues where air intake is causing reflux and the cause can be tension, feeding positions, and/ or an oral dysfunction such as tongue tie. How does he take feeds? Is his latch good? Has anyone qualified in tongue tie looked in his mouth to rule it out?

@Incognito I’ll definitely look into that! Thank you! He’s started to have little pimple on his forehead so it’s interesting you’ve said that! I just know there’s more too it than reflux! Xx

@Jazmin honestly it breaks my heart! He takes the bottle well but will sometimes stop and stare out then scrunch up like it’s giving him belly ache or when I stop to wind he’ll do the same again. When we were in the hospital after he was born the paediatrician said it doesn’t look like he has younger tie xx

@Melanie does he sleep with his mouth closed and tongue to the roof of his mouth? Are his lips fully flanged around the bottle with no milk seepage? These are all red flags for tongue tie. Unfortunately all paediatricians, HV’s, GP’s and Osteo’s are not trained in tongue tie unless they have had the specific training. If there are these red flags, and you can afford it, I’d highly recommend a private oral assessment, even to rule it out x
