Question

If ur lo understands a word and does as it follows does it counts as knowing a gesture or a word? My lo can say about 4-5+ words, 14+ gestures and understands certain words and does it ex, if I say hair brush she will starts brushing her hair. If I say elephant she will put her hands up high trying to say so big. And ect, she babbles a lot like full blown conversation. As a 16 month old are these enough or in the right track ?

So kinda I believe so but here’s the info I know for sure for getting my lo evaluated because I was nervous, @speechsisters on Instagram is awesome. But I know they count sign language. But they have to use the word they mean. Like “ba” for ball for them counts as a word I know. And the same sounds can mean multiple things if it’s consistent. Like my kiddo says “nema” for all cats (our cats nickname lol). So we count that as a word. I think gestures are counted differently but I’m not positive. I always say if you’re ever concerned get them evaluated it doesn’t hurt. My kiddo didn’t qualify so it’s not like they’ll say yes regardless. They also gave me tons of tips and tricks to bring out language so when in doubt just seek out the professional. But it sounds like they’re doing great!

Sorry I’m rereading your post and mine and I’m super tired and up late 🤣🙈 my thing makes no sense and doesn’t really answer it omg 😆😆 I think it sounds like your kiddo is on par or even above but don’t trust me I’m clearly exhausted. 🤣

She sounds about right don’t know for sure, but after 3 kids I am no longer stressing. I am trying my best to teach her, but I know she will speak on her time.
