Buserelin shortage! FET.

On my 2nd frozen embryo transfer.. due to the shortage of Buserelin they have recommended using Prostap injection that lasts 4weeks instead. Without giving me much information on the differences! I don’t understand how each year they seem to be having a shortage anyways! But we either go for Prostap or delay treatment until Buserelin is back in stock. Anyone have any advice or have used Prostap instead? I have endo, so doing the long protocol. Would really appreciate any information 🥰 Thanks 🥰

I don’t know about the differences but I have buserelin left over if you need it

We used Buserelin for our first FET which unfortunately failed. Then for our second FET there was a shortage of Buserelin as you’re mentioning (this seems to be a regular thing as it also happened at my egg collection as I needed Buserelin to trigger) I had to have the decapeptyl injection which I believe works the same as the Prostap injection. I think the differences are that the prostap you’ll have one single injection administered by a nurse/doctor where as the Buserelin you’d have had to injected yourself daily. I believe also it’s important that you’re clinic get the timings right as the prostap will only last the 4 weeks so it’s important your body is ready (womb lining etc…). I had the decapeptyl injection in my bum muscle which was a bit bruised/sore to lay on for a few days but other than that, it was absolutely fine! Whether it was anything to do with my protocol or not but our second FET worked and I now have a nearly 10 week old. Wishing you lots luck xxx

Hey, I’ve used Prostap before for my FETs. I just injected the once at home, no need for nurse or doctor to administer but maybe that depends on clinics? Then you have the transfer within the 4 weeks. You’re body goes into what I’d call a temporary menopause state (with all the side affects for me too). I’ve not used buserelin before though.

I used prostap and if anything I preferred it. One jab & job done! I didn’t have any side effects with it either.

Thank you so much everyone. I think any left over stock of Buserelin, would be out of date as of January. Thank you for the offer though @Amy! @Stacy Ah that sounds promising, congratulations! That’s my concern, I would like them to give advice on if they think it will all work out with timings. I don’t mind the injections daily or a one off or even side effects I’ll deal with… it’s more because Buserelin is out of stock, should I wait for it to come back in. Or go ahead with Prostap. I feel they need to give me abit more medical advise to the pros/cons for both before I make the decision. Thank you everyone! x x

@Em thank you ☺️ yeah that’s understandable! Definitely ask the questions and do what you think is right for you :) it might be worth trying to find out how long you’d have to wait for the Buserelin as I know Summer 2022 my clinic had no idea when they’d get more in stock. Good luck with your FET xxx

@Amyee Hi Amyee, do you know the expiry date on your Buserelin and if you still have it I would be so greatful to have this... they keep cancelling my cycle and won't let us go ahead until it is back and stock and I'm trying everything to source it currently

@Susan so sorry to hear this! It’s so frustrating! I have chosen to go for Prostap because I don’t want to wait any longer. Have they not recommended this for you or a different medication? xx
