Sma alfamino

Can anyone help 🙏 lo been on Aptamil pepti 1 for 4 weeks, switched to alfamino today, but it doesn't seem to dissolve and he's still going on hungry after a bottle. Already loosing my mind, since just before he was 2 weeks old he got diarrhea for almost 3 weeks, that turned into what is now chronic constipation, along with grunting/ nasal congestion he's had since not long after birth and facial eczema, also reflux since virtual ward nurses reduced his milk and switched us to c&g comfort milk. It took up untill 4 weeks ago for them to say it could be cmpa(maybe just because I suggested it to the consultant) I tried pepti 1 for the last 4 weeks. It seemed to make reflux, excema, just everything worse. Virtual ward nurses had him down to 2oz every 3 hours, I put him back up to 3 myself as it was torchure watching him so hungry. Now he's pretty much 4 months old he's only on 4oz 3 hourly or 5 Oz if 4 hours, doesn't seem enough and he's always hungry, all my others were on way more by now I'm sure, but it has been a while. He is a lot more settled than he was not long back, but still not right especially for his age. Sorry this post is probably a load of gibberish all over the place, it's been a long old few months and I'm frantically typing before he screams or winges again. Can anyone resonate or shed light at all please, I'm actually going/gone insane. Drs etc are less than helpful and so is OH😭

Alfamino is quite grainy how are u making it up? I do a hot shot, add formula then cooled boiled water and give it a rle good shake and it does dissolve but it leaves gritty stuff on the bottle. My little on is on it and took about 6 weeks to fully settled but shes now rash free and doesnt have constipation anymore and it alot more content so its worked for her.

I've only started it today, after a run around trying to find somewhere that stocked it. He's had 2 bottles of it so far, and I've just used straight up boiled water with the 1st, then tried to leave it to cool a little with the 2nd, was still as bad🤦 just worried that if all the grains are still on the bottle is he getting what he needs? Feel silly as although his symptoms hadn't gone, maybe I should of waited the Aptamil out a little longer? It's just been a nightmare and it's a struggle to settle him. I mean he still feeds mostly every 3 hours at 4 months old aswell, sometimes he'll go 4 or so hours, but rarley. Can I ask do you give your little one the amounts it says on the tin or what she would usually have with her normal milk? Also did you struggle with constipation bad, like he rarely poos, he got to once every 3 days from Christmas week, then had his 1st imms late as he'd been poorly and went to 5-6 days without pooing, prior to the 3 daily ones he would go forever, to the point he had

A suppository at the hospital that didn't really help. Thankyou for your reply and I do apologise about my all over the place rambling. Hope I make a little sense 😂

Hell get what he needs still dont worry about that alot of the amino acid milks are grainy. My first baby was on neocate and it wasnt as bad but still left bits just mke sure u rle shake it so it all separates or use a sterile spoon. My little one ws the same with regular feeds but now shes settled she goes longer stretches but still doesnt tke the same every bottle. Some she takes 4oz and some shell take 6oz. Rare occasions i have to make a bit more for her but she only has 5 bottles over 24 hours now which worried me but shes gaining weight rle well so i wouldnt worry about what it says on the tin at all just give baby what he needs. So she never went that long but her poop was so hard! And she used to scream for over an hour trying to go its awful but now she goes no problem pretty much once a day or at least every other 🤣 stick with the alfamino its a good milk and hopefully after a couple of weeks ull see a big change in ur little one. Feel free to message me anytime x

Ive been thru this with both my babies so know how daunting it is and how much u second guess everything and urself x

My little girl is on 6/7oz and she is 14 weeks old if your baby is still hungry I would increase as you say you’re struggling to see him hungry. What a virtual ward nurse? Is it an online thing ? My baby is on Alfamino to I’ve just found give it a really good shake but it’s still grainy you will get there 🤞 xxx

@Emma thanks Hun, I have spoken to health visiting team today as we don't really have contact with anyone like that and they've said the drs and consultant should of been doing a bit more i.e a dietician referral and eczema cream etc as he isn't prescribed anything but the milk and that his poor stomach is probably messed up due to peads and virtual ward nurses reducing and changing his milk so much which apparently they shouldn't of done. He seems to of gone back to how he was when we started Aptamil since starting alfamino yesterday, did go one long stretch for a bigger bottle, but been quite unsettled and spat up a couple times again, just hoping it's just cus of the change and it all improves 🙏 xxx

@Kelly thanks Hun, how often does she feed that much if you don't mind me asking? Also virtual ward nurses are basically nurses who come out to your house and leave equipment with you and give phone calls after you've been to peads ward, but that was due to him having chest recession xxx

It can take 6 weeks for the old milk to leave the gut so it can feel like things are getting worse but stick with it because there is nothing in alfamino for him to react to his body probs just needs a bit of time. These milks are thing aswell so can cause reflux symptoms u can try a slower teat so he takes it slower or u can buy carobel which thickens the milk but my little one didnt need either she just got used to it but is still a bit sick sometimes but not alot. In terms of creams we never had any either, as soon as her allergy ws under control the eczema went away but ur gp should have done a referral to the allergy team at the hospital so they can review everything xx

Thanks Hun, he is on the slowest teats possible still. I have been and booked back in with the GP to try and get a referral to the dietician/allergy team, I'm just debating if it is even a cmpa atm, just don't know what to think any more😭xx

I did that with my first i was constantly back and forth in my head like is it isnt it and i drove myself crazy. The only way ull no for sure is if u stick with a milk and see an improvement. Id say the alfamino is your best bet as the pepti still contains milk. My advice would be give it 6 weeks as hard as it js and see if u get an improvement and if u do then u no its cmpa if u dont then maybe its something else or its cmpa but also silent reflux etc xx

I do feel like I've gone insane already😂 I mean I took them almost 3 months to even agree it could be cmpa, and a month later I'm still clueless🤦 I don't think I have any choice but to stick it out and see where we go with the sma, just hoping this slip backwards is just him adjusting to yet another different milk poor kid. Did it take very long for you to see an improvement Hun, do you still suffer with symptoms at all. Ty so much for all your advice it's very much appreciated xxx

It is horrible i no how u feel. Defo stick this one out and see how he gets on. Erm about 2 weeks for the rash/belly to settle and about 7 for her to be fully content so a fair amount of time. She doesnt seem to have any symptoms now no she is so much happier than she was. Ull get there just keep going mumma and anytime 🥰 xx

Oh I get you ! She has five feeds a day and I would say 3/5 she has a full 7 xx

@Emma am really hoping alfamino is the one and everything settles asap cus I honestly don't know how much longer I can cope😭 God knows how these poor baby's must feel. So glad it got better for you, that's amazing. Tysm for all your help, it's so nice to know I'm not the only one😂xxx

@Kelly see he still has feeds pretty much 3 hourly, sometimes 4 hours. Second bottle of alfamino yesterday he went long enough for 6oz, but even after that he only went barley 3 hours, so he still has 6-8 feeds. I was told basically 150ml per kg of baby weight per 24hours, have never known this with my older 4, it's was always what they want when they want it, but maybe that's why they were chunkier😂xx
