Do you use a sound machine? Does he have a comfort toy/blanket? My son is 8 months old and nurses to sleep so I don't have much advice, we did use the ferber method with him to transition to the crib in his room around 5 months and it worked well, once he asleep he only wakes up once or twice throughout the night
Read "taking Cara babies" it has the strategy laid out for sleep training/weaning off of feeds etc. Everything clear and straightforward:)
@Samantha yes we use a sound machine & has been using a ‘lovey’ in his crib! He’s always been so good going to sleep & sleeping through the night but since taking away the bottle it’s been a struggle thank for commenting 🥰🥰
Maybe he just need something new for bed time to replace his bottle. I know at 1 they don’t really get the whole trading thing but maybe just a new sleep item is what will work. At my kiddos 2 year sleep regression I got him this lullaby owl on Amazon. It has easy to push buttons and the eyes close as it sings. The first couple of weeks he would press the buttons a million times and now he just presses it a few times to hear the lullaby and comfort him.
I changed the environment first, I would give the bottle not in his room, lights on, 1 hr or 30 mins before bedtime. This is to break the association that the bottle is connected to his sleep. Once he got use to that I switched it up and gave the bottle at dinner time and made it a bit closer to bedtime so he wouldn’t go to bed hungry. Hope this helps!
You can slowly switch to water.
@Ellie was coming here to say this.
@Lizzy it's taken a bit, but we're currently down to 2oz milk 4 oz water before bed
I think the bottle before bed is ok because it fills their tummy. But maybe give the bottle either in a rocking chair or maybe downstairs on the couch, then bring him up, change him and put him to bed? I did the Ferber method with my girl it worked great for my girl.
Note: he use to give him 8oz bottle to go to bed, we’ve been lowering the amount every night, but we go him down to 4oz & he will go to sleep fine but when we did 3oz he was crying & it was a struggle to get him to sleep & settle
