How do you prepare breast milk bottles for a full day out?

I exclusively breast feed at the moment, but I have a wedding in May that my bub will be coming too and I want to be using bottles so I haven’t got my boob out the whole day 😂 We’ll be there for about 12 hours and I’m sure breast milk is only good out of the fridge for 6 hours, so how does everyone organise breast milk bottles for a full day out?? I’m not sure if the venue will let us use their fridge so other options would be appreciated!

Get cool bag and fill it with ice packs! Then you can put the bottles of milk in there. It should keep it cold enough for the day! It’s normally keeps my bottles cold for at least another 4-6 hours depending on how many icepacks I put in

For the cool bag, just one of the insulated lunch boxes will do!

You’ll have to make sure you pump throughout the day also, even if it’s just hand expressing into the toilet.

I’d recommend you start trying bottles sooner rather than later incase your baby doesn’t take to them. Mine never did 🥲

@Caitlin yeah thats the plan! I feel like he might not either but we shall see 😅

@Hayley everyone says to bottle feed as it’s easier but it seems like way more hassle atm haha! Don’t think I’d have the heart to waste it in the loo 😭

@Jess I defo think BF is the lazier option imo 😂 but I feel that. I don’t think I would either.

I would use a cool bag & freezer packs. That’s what I have done once. Or I would ask the venue if there is somewhere you could go to feed? I’ve also got a BF cover it’s like an apron lol that goes over your head but you can still see the baby if that would make you feel more comfortable. I use that when I’m in restaurants & stuff.

If taking baby I’ll always recommend to feed baby directly, there’s usually another room you can go to even at a wedding. Or I just go into toilet, I mean it’s not the ideal spot but that’s if there’s absolutely nowhere discreetly to feed and usually yes I will whip out anywhere but at a wedding I won’t. If I can find a couch that I can turn myself to the wall a lil that doesn’t have a lot of people traffic I will feed there or yeah, toilet. I only pump and feed bottles when baby isn’t there. However. The dress may be not Bf friendly so that’s the only reason I will pump and feed bottles at the wedding (coz for a wedding I won’t be looking for a BF friendly dress coz that will limit my options) My last wedding dress was NOT bf friendly it had like a corset type bra/top lol

I went to a wedding with my then 9 month old and didn't waste my time or energy with bottles and pumping. Just found a secluded, non-bathroom space and nursed her at the reception as needed

From an exclusive pumper. There is a ton of information out there about how many hours and such breastmilk can be out/warm/cold etc. but for me it’s easy to remember never out more than two hours. If it’s not getting consumed right away I chill in the freezer or in a cooler bag with ice packs. As for warming it, I heat up a mug or dish with warm to hot water and put the bottle in for a couple minutes and that’s usually enough. If there’s a restaurant or a caterer you can usually ask for hot water. Depending on the size of mug or dish you usually only need like 1/2 a cup. Knowing this was going to be my process I only opted glass or silicone bottles. There are travel warmers that plug into an outlet you can get and usually for sale on marketplace or buy/sell sites. But I don’t have any experience with these yet. Not sure if it’ll work at a wedding venue but when travelling with breastmilk at hotels, ask for “a fridge for medication.” They’ll help for meds but not always for milk.

I’ve put fresh milk (pumped the same morning) in the fridge to chill and then into her insulated diaper bag compartment with ice packs for a full day and had no issue. She won’t drink cold milk though, and one time the only hot thing I could get to warm her bottle was hot coffee! 😂 so I put some hot coffee in a mug and stuck the bottle in there to warm up and just wiped it down before feeding her. Just remember to be creative and improvise if you have to!

Oh my gosh! That’s such a long wedding?? We have a mini fridge that has a USB port, so we can plug it into a portable charger or a car or any wall. I use this when we are out for many hours. I put my breastmilk in storage containers (medela) and into the fridge! If you can’t wash your pump while you’re there, then you may want to find a mini fridge big enough to store your pumps in there too. Breastfed babies can be particular with bottles. I use the Philips avent natural bottles with the level 2 flow. If you want to heat up the breastmilk while you’re there, then maybe a portable bottle warmer? That would be very convenient
