Laparoscopy

I am new to Endo - my doctor believes I developed endo post c section and has done a lot of testing to rule out other causes for my symptoms. Any tips of what I should ask my surgeon? Ways to help the healing process? Healing time? I have a 15 month crazy active toddler and I’m so worried about the recovery time for even a scope. I don’t have a lot of support I could use any advice.

Hello, sorry to hear that. I got endo and laparoscopy after my first one too. I woudl ask which stage are you? Where did endo develop? In which areas? To heal: pepper mint tea, lots of rest, pain killers. Healing time for me was 2 weeks I reckon. It will get better before you know it I promise. Most of the painful symptoms will disappear after the surgery so it’s worth it 😊 good luck!

Hi there. I have had 3 procedures to clean up endo over the years. I wasn’t ready to give up hope for having a pregnancy so just did routine lyproscopy and ablation to remove the damage….recovery was slow but steady and each time different…in how down I was and for how long. Average was 2-4 weeks of slow and thoughtful movements (lack of driving, needing any help getting up or down, etc.)….everyone is different and depending on the damage level needing cleaned…just be patient, mindful and let your body tell you how and how long it will take. 💜

I’d ask if they plan on using excision or ablation. Personally I won’t have ablation at all, it can cause more scarring & doesn’t actually remove the root of the tissue. I’m planning for my next one I’m waiting until my boy is old enough to understand he can’t climb all over me, he’s 13 months now and I definitely couldn’t recover atm. Major thing, make sure you have an actual endometriosis specialist performing the surgery, not a regular gyne or “special interest” in endo. I can’t count the amount of women I know who have been operated on by regular obgyns, told there’s minimal endo, then felt no relief & had surgery by a specialist who has found severe endo everywhere!!

Yes please never have an ablation. Please join the Facebook group from endometriosis uk and look at the charity website. There is NHS guidance that only hospitals accredited as a BSGE endo Centre should be doing this kind of surgery because it takes a very skilled surgery and its proven that ablation doesn't remove. Only excision. I won't comment recovery time as I had endo since puberty so it was a very big operation and hopefully not comparable to yours!

I recently had a laparoscopy to look for endo- they found some so got rid of what they saw. I have an 18 month old and recovery was ok. Just nap when you can. Drink peppermint tea. Take pain medication x
